i used to like plain janes but i'm starting to realize that hot girls actually seem to be a LOT more pleasant and receptive to me in general than plain janes are. another thing i'm starting to notice is girls i use to think look hot are starting to look average.

when you're in scarcity you can't perceive things right.

I think maybe you're lowering your standards to meet your SMV. I don't think obese women are more attractive than Victoria's secret models.

Sometimes I'll see a girl that's unconventionally attractive. They usually aren't overweight, but maybe a girl with an Aquiline nose or freckly face or something, who is just so commandingly feminine in her fashion sense or strut that it's hard not to turn my head. I don't think that's what you're talking about though because I don't think I'm the only guy who finds those girls attractive.

I think men tend to want what they can't have. In high school I did theater and band, and I dated 3-4 band girl / theater geek type of girls (alternative, cute in their own way, low amount of makeup, etc). This fueled me in college to be extremely into all-American sorority girls with the full slutted up attire, that dumb blonde way of speaking, bonus points if they are tall blonde athletes. I'd take what I could get because I was still learning game, but whenever I fucked a tall sorority girl, I'd be ready to LTR that shit immediately.

After I spent 1 year dating the volleyball blonde chick, I started cheating on her with these sexy librarian looking hipster chicks. Then, after growing disenchanted and disgusted with hipster chicks, I spent 2 years being into latina women. Now I'm at a point where it doesn't really matter, I don't feel I have a type, I just want that good waist ratio, nice legs, and a good face.

So basically, indirectly, I think SMV MIGHT be connected to preferrence. In that you always crave for what your SMV does not allow you to obtain. If my SMV is only high enough for the nerdy girls, I'm craving the cheerleader / sorority types. When my SMV was high enough to get them, I'm craving these "smart but beautiful" types. After my SMV was high enough to hold frame with them, which took a lot of work and time, I began to realize that it was all an illusion. Women are women. When you're SMV gets high enough, I think tastes sort of fade away. Once you've had all the types and you realize there's not much difference at the end of the day, one's preference slowly becomes "women that my instinct says go put a baby in that."

But this also could be a function of environment. When I lived in a college that had nerdy girls and sorority girls, I had a "taste" for one of them. Now I live in a multicultural city with all types of fine hos, so my tastes are more general.

A lot of times people think to themselves "oh I don't find that slim, tall, blonde 10 hot" as an ego-preservation mechanism - ie, "I think that I won't be able to pull her so I'll just tell myself that I never wanted to pull her anyway".

Actually, it might be genetics, there are studies done on smells that genetically dissimilar people will smell more pleasant to each other.

Or you just have a pre-selection bias that plain janes will make better partners.

Anyway, genetics or pre-selection, try it out with more women and report back.

That's so hard to prove. While there are universals for beauty, such as youth, healthiness, fertility, symmetry and waist-to-hip ratio, past that is such a cultural and experiential grab-bag. In other words, past a certain baseline, there's no accounting for taste.

Super models are not on the table for most of us because our SMV is not high enough. Some will probably disagree with me on that, but I see it as true on a general level.

So they're fun to look at and have their use in a way, but they don't really matter. The ones that matter are the ones who's available, which do correlate to your own SMV.
