I've just made a (fairly lengthy) post to /r/racism hoping to clear up the recent misunderstandings.

Hey folks!

There’s been a recent kerfuffle between /r/mensrights and the feminist mod’s here at /racism. I would like to explain to any neutral parties why this is happening what men’s rights stands for and how misandry may be hurting you. (in two parts)

A. Why the drama? Men’s right’s is an egalitarian movement, as such it desires equal rights for everyone and is committed ending all forms of discrimination including racial and LGTB. We focus specifically on men and boys but this naturally covers men of all races and gay, bi and transmen. Because we are focusing on one issue we know other groups need to exist for real equality to occur so where ever possible we want to support women’s rights, LGBT rights and anti-racism… this is why one of our members originally asked for an inclusion along side the (many) linked female subreddits.

Despite this strong commitment to equal rights for all and egalitarianism men’s rights activists (or MRA’s) remain strongly opposed to feminism. This is due to disagreement with many of feminisms core theories and it’s bigotry, historical bigotry towards other races and homosexuals and current bigotry towards men and transpersons. We view feminism as an inherently bigoted movement and opposed to real equality.

Basically feminists are afraid that people will start to wonder why we are so opposed to feminism while at the same time being so committed to equal rights for both genders, all races and LGBT people.

B. What is misandry and how is it hurting people? Misandry is technically the hatred of men, it also means the systematic treatment of men as less than human. This is shown in the lack of male reproductive rights, circumcision, child custody, boys suffering in education, the high rates of male victims of violent crime, the high incarceration rate of men, men facing harsher sentencing than women for the same crime, sexist divorce laws, male victims of false rape accusations, men facing the draft, men who die in the work place and male medical services being under funded compared to female services.

Basically we think that women used to face legal and governmental discrimination and still face social discrimination, but men currently face all three: legal, governmental and social discrimination. Many men suffer from a double whammy of discrimination from both race and gender. One of the best (or worst I suppose) examples of this is black men. For better or worse black men are seen as ‘hyper-masculine’ and all the misandry that men suffer is magnified for them. All boys are suffering in education… but black boys are suffering worse, all men are over represented in prisons and suffer harsher sentences for crimes when compared to women… but black men suffer worse than most other men. This is why men’s rights is so important.

SHOUTOUT TO yellowmix: I know you aren’t going to be to be happy to read this but I ask that if you take your duties as a r/racism mod seriously that you ignore that anti-feminism in this post and think of the men on the subreddit who are suffering from misandry. Men’s rights is anti-racist, this is a reddit for anti-racism let us help.
