I believe in the "Ban noise. Keep debate." rule.

Noise is not disagreement. Noise is not tangents. Noise is not feminists coming here to make counterpoints.

Noise is spamming. Noise is trolling. Noise is always posting in capslock. Noise is purposely destroying debate by creating distractions.

As far as abusive language and commentary (which basically involves bullying) - it gets more complex. Clearly tempers will flare and emotions run high, but posting consistently and abusive comments isn't debate - it is noise. Some level of politeness should be expected here, without getting too over-sensitive about it. The more it tends towards just being noise and not debate though, the more I support a ban.

At a certain level you can validly say that they are just engaging in Ad hominem - which is a fallacious argument because it attacks the person talking not their points. Their points may be valid or not completely independent of their own selves. So repeatedly making ad hominems is definitely noise. It is purposely and consistently making what is known to be a fallacious argument.

The tricky situation here is that there are activists on both sides who will walk the fine line. I think we need to be extra careful in those situations because we need to treat others how we want ourselves to be treated. In such vague cases, I would tend to be against banning.

I just wrote this about why we don't orchestrate ban policy committees.

Spam and abuse that is obviously not a tenable (or attempted to be defended) opinion can be banned freely. "Nazi patriarchist" without reason for example. (incidentally, I would love to read an actual example/interpretation of patriarchy substantiation which is never made).

When a user is being bullied by another user and asks for help, what should we do?

That gets tricky. Obviously a central basis for false-rape claims is the power of "running to mommy and tattling". For the mods to say "mommy is here, tell us if anyone hurts you" invites the same abuses displayed either by members of r/anarchism or mods of r/feminisms.

It usually takes significant effort to determine whether 1. it is abuse. 2. Not defense against abuse, or one side of a fight. Its easy to side with the MR member and against speech you're pretty sure is stupid or misinformed if in doubt.

To me, proof/confirmation that feminism is a corrupt and worthless ideology is that they need to protect it from critical speech. So, I would not suggest emulating those subs ban policies.

On the other hand, if you do, I can certainly list names of abusive trolls that follow me around, though they don't follow me here.

I think the current moderation is fine, and that the banhammer has been used sparingly when considering the amount of derailment,ad hominem attacks, and strawman fallacies that various trolls have dragged in here.

Another sign of a troll is someone who just cannot let an argument go.They have to have the last word.A good example was on another recent post on MR.The author continued to assert that the mods here said misandry would be enforced at a higher level than misogyny,When in fact that is not what was said.It came down to the individual perception of said abuse.The author could not or would not substantiate their definition of misogyny. Post after post presenting hypothetical strawman arguments. In the end arguing with a feminist is like trying to empty the ocean with a spoon.I'm just waiting for it to begin here,on this post.
