If you need to win a women's heart by your fast car, posh clothes big house, and giving her all the things she desires, chances are you'll more often then not get someone who will take advantage of you.

Now, if you're yourself, you chat to the girl, share similar interests, and you don't find yourself trying to do the fake "Impress the hell" out of her, but instead become friends and then get closer - chances are she isn't the kind that needs/expects you to be giving her everything she wants.

The latter happened to me, 10 years and still going strong.

Okay. I'm a 22 year old woman and reading this article and the comments below was very shocking to me. I live in the South where some young girls are still raised to be beautiful and charming so that they can find a husband. In this group of women I have met people who see men as a means to ends, but even still some are looking for genuine loving relationships. I have a live-in boyfriend and am working on my BSN (nursing). I appreciate parts of feminism eg. equal rights and equal pay, but growing up in Alabama women belong in the kitchen jokes are only half jokes.

I hate to see people say that women go for assholes. It really irks my nerves, because I have always dated men who were kind, humorous, and respectful.

In the same way the women have to pick through the douchebags, men have to pick through the gold-digging sluts. Be honest and respect yourself, and you can avoid these people.

Women are more concerned about being competitive with men, rather than complementing them.

That's an excellent point the author of the article makes. He's also right that a high divorce rate is going to make men apprehensive about marriage.

One quibble, though. The divorce rate in the US is not 60%, it's closer to 40%. And for many men, the real risk of divorce is considerably lower (e.g. it depends on your level of income, age, education). See here.

What keeps me going as an MRA is that every day I have to reconcile the respect I have for my sisters, who I do think are good people who love and respect their partners... with the distrust I have for other women in society who I see increasingly able to intimidate and abuse as they please.

Somewhere in that mess of conflict there is a kind of truth that emerges, one that recognizes the need for and genuine quality of women with the simultaneous potential for great evil.

It is the desire to limit that evil in women, because certainly any human unchecked can be a tyrant, that makes me see the legitimate need for a movement to protect men's rights. I know many will stereotype, shame, and handwave men's rights away as an attempt to return to some antiquated time that I certainly never lived during. I also know that is a flaw in them though. They are the ones who choose to view it as they wish, not as what it is.

So they can't stop me, because I'm already ashamed. I'm already conflicted. However there is still work to be done.

What I've noticed personally is that most girls, whether good-hearted or evil bitches, tend to go for douche bags early on in life (teens to mid 20's). But once they inevitably get cheated on or emotionally hurt by the male douche bag, things go as:

1) The evil bitch women tend to keep going after douche bags. 2) The good-hearted truly nice women tend to start looking for a genuinely nice guy.

The #2 is the big opportunity for nice guys like myself and many fellow Reddit peeps. Once a good girl has been burned bad by a douchebag, she appreciates nice guys a lot more and will value you for your own good heart.
