Years and years ago I had a friend that was about to get married that was going through so much stress with her intended. This article reminds me of him. He had essentially fled his mother as a teen. At some point she had tracked him down and phoned him constantly. She was of course, against the marriage. Or his marrying anyone. His father's name had been Mitch. His name was Mitch. His brother's name was Mitch. His entire childhood he never had his own bed but was made to sleep with his mother, up until the time he left. When he was 17. My friend attempted to assure this is how it was done in his country. Canada. They were stressing out because the mother wanted to come to the wedding and he knew she would expect to share his bed. He was having night terrors. Screaming, wetting the bed. He was in his late 20's at the time. I recall telling my friend, no, this was not normal...keep mommy far away and get her new hubby a good therapist. He and very likely his brother Mitch were both replacements for the husband that left, sadly in every sense.

Which also now reminds me. I have another friend who's mother in law of 12 years insists on sleeping in the same bed with her husband (the son) when she comes to visit. She brought it up to me looking for support, asking, this isn't normal, is it? I was like, Shit. If it's been going on for the 12 years you've been married it's been going on forever and no. It is not normal.
