I remember when there was this huge controversy over these ads saying "Are you beach body ready" in the UK a few years ago. It was all centered around how the woman was supermodel hot and had an "unobtainable" body shape, fitness level, etc. it was body shaming, and misogynistic. The government actually stepped in and took all of the ads featuring that woman down.
You know what nobody mentioned or even seemed to care about? Ads for the same product existed while that ad existed, only appealing to men and had a supermodel body builder type guy in it instead of the woman. Even after the government stepped in and took the one of the woman down, the one with the guy stayed up and still nobody complained or thought for one second that there might be a double standard or bit of hypocrisy going on.
Oh darn sorry, if you just look up "Protein world, male and female ad" in google images you should eventually come across the comparison or see both ads separately
I actually just found a link to an article via google images that compares the two. I have not read this article, but it seems to basically be addressing similar sentiments about the double standards from the little I skimmed just now. Scroll down a bit and you will see a picture with yellow background. One female, one male. One saying sexist, the other saying Not sexist. Those are the ads I was talking about.
