This matters a lot. We consider it is OK to criticize another human being for being right wing. We don't consider it OK to criticize another person for being gay or black or a woman.

Of course until very recently nobody knew anything about why people all over the planet split up into opposing gangs who take different sides on matters of public policy and moral philosophy.

But recently psychologists have been digging more deeply. They have discovered that liberals and conservatives tend to cluster together on multiple tests that we would never have connected with political outlook. Consistently, liberals want to try new things and accept opportunities for fresh experience while conservatives very strongly tend towards the familiar. There's the widely respected Big 5 personality indicators which have been shown again and again to be predictive of life outcomes. Right and left people tend to have very different personality configurations. Right wing people seem to have a strong edge with focus and ability to follow through with tasks to the finish. But they also have a certain problem with thinking outside the box, which comes more easily to liberals, on average. (Of course these are all aggregates, there are certainly people in both camps for which the opposite is true. For example the Vice President is a disagreeable authoritarian by temperament, but she's a Democrat who is finally relaxing her lifelong zeal to put brown men in cages regardless of guilt or innocence. Usually people with a boner for incarceration are very right wing. Maybe if she hadn't started her career in a jurisdiction without a functional conservative party, she would be a Nikki Haley. San Francisco is the kind of place where ambitious conservatives force themselves to be leftists, perhaps).

Conservatives are much more highly represented among the "take no shit", hard-nosed people of the world. More touchy-feely people pleaser types are far less likely to be seen in a MAGA hat.

The point to bear in mind is that these personality indicators seem to be in place by early childhood and they remain stable throughout a lifetime, in most cases. This strengthens the idea that such personality indicators are innate and not socially constructed.

So if we take the point that conservatives are born that way, and they have to accept the same of us, doesn't that mean we are morally obligated to stop condemning each other for our personal political biases to the right or left? Nobody sees all of the world at the same moment, we all only see a distorted piece of reality. Maybe we would be better accepting that every personality will subtly tend to slant interpretations and that the truth is unlikely to be found by taking one political tendency's subjective experience and elevate it to the normative vision that the whole society must emulate.

My ideas above are, I note, a very hippie approach to a problem. Which makes sense as my personality indicators are very much contrary to the indicators that are typical from a conservative.
