u/TheWolfRevenge gathered a bunch of data from the sub r/AmITheAsshole and graphed how often people were judged to be the asshole based on age and sex.

The results likely won't surprise anyone here but it's nice to have solid data like this.

Standard disclaimer: do not brigade. The post is almost a day old at this point with 2k comments and 44k upvotes. There is a lot of interesting discussion and a lot of people seem to think that there is really a bias. Some comments were trying to argue that "men are more likely to be assholes" and things like that. But I was honestly surprised at how receptive people were to the idea that men aren't being treated fairly in that sub (or in society in general).

You can't lump all the different scenarios together. You're basically including things like "I want to join some friends at the beach tomorrow, but my significant other wants us to spend the day alone, even though I've spent the past several days with him/her" with something like "I forced my son to throw away his favorite toys because he's getting too old for them."

What would be a more useful way to determine if gender causes people to view someone as an asshole or not (which I suspect it would) would be to do this:

Create some fictional scenarios of varying severity of assholishness and post them on AITA. Randomly make half of them by male posters and half of them by female posters.
Collect results.
After some time to allow people on there to forget about these scenarios, post them again, except switch the genders of the posters this time.
Collect results and compare.

This might not be practical, though.
