Where do you meet worthwhile dates?

I'll be super honest. OLD has been slightly better than IRL. When I date guys though my nerdy hobby, they're useless manchildren. Guys I meet in the same professional field do not have their shit together. The guy's I've met through OLD have been fine? But IMO OLD is for bored people to meet other bored people. Like, I'm insanely selective on OLD, so I've met a handful of guys who are reasonably attractive/good jobs/well educated/etc. but my swipe left rate is like 99% and who has time for that really. But when I do go out with these guys, they end up being a little boring? The guy I recently started seeing recently has shown a lot of green flags, though it's too early to tell if HV. MUCH better than the last two guys I dated though who I knew through my social circle.

While I know it’s not recommended, I’ve met previous boyfriends at previous internships or at work. For the one I met at the internship: we officially started dating after the internship ended. For the two I met at my corporate job: my company employs tens of thousands of people, and we were in completely different organizations sitting on different floors. All three were long-term relationships. I don’t regularly run into any of them (I haven’t seen two of them in years), but we would have no issue being cordial if I happened to in the future.

I’m a shy homebody who prefers to befriend someone before determining if there’s a romantic interest. With the exception of work, I’m either at home or at the gym (which is 85% female). I also have a special needs pet, so I am not jazzed about the idea of possibly wasting an entire evening on a man I met on OLD when I could easily and happily spend time being with my pet. Now that COVID’s a concern, my interest in meeting strangers during a pandemic has dropped to an all-time low.

This is a good question! I met my boyfriend in college. We were in class together as well as both a part of the play the Performing Arts department was putting on that semester. He was a lead actor and I was Stage Managing. We were in the same friend/aqqaintance group from that and would do things like play D&D outside of rehearsals before he asked me out.

Honestly, I've never met anyone on OLD I actually like (they are fine for friendships but there's no attraction on my end and I only swipe right on less than 1% of them in the first place), I prefer to naturally develop an interest in someone and OLD feels so forced. I also seem to only get "cold approached" in person by LVM/PUA types.

I think activities and clubs for specific hobbies are where it's at, or through mutual friends so you know they've already been vetted at least a little bit.
