Why do other men and women mock me for my long hair?

Things in life are generally not fair.

When people mock you for something(no matter what) they tend to do it more if they see it bothers you. If you show you are not bothered by it, they will stop soon. Maybe even start making fun of yourself to show you are taking it lightly.

I have a friend with long hair that people mocked. He started saying jokes about bow down to Jesus and things like that. Nobody makes fun of him anymore.

Plus, you should not care about what other people think. People belittle other people most of the time because of envy or because they feel inadequate themselves. The people that mock you do not matter.

Actually having long hair used to be a sign of freedom - workers and slaves could not have long hair.

Whether people are aware of this or not, the fact is that you have made a decision to be a little bit different. This makes some people uncomfortable. They expect you to conform like they did. Maybe they’re a little bit jealous that you have strength that they don’t.

its probably mostly down to the fact you are young. I used to have long hair as a 14 year old and everyone mocked me including my parents. Moved out and grew my hair out again at 23 and no one tells you anything and if some older person usually starts saying something dumb its very easy to say something smart back at them.

All throughout my teenage years, I had a mohawk. Over 18" of glorious liberty spikes.

I joined the Army and had to cut it. Hated that day.

When I left the Army, I grew it back.

It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks. Do you like your hair? Keep it.

Gay guy here. They are dumb conformists, and probably gay but in denial. Only about one in a thousand or more gay guys have long hair. Gay dating sites are a wall of spiky short hair and shaved heads. Lol But you can tell them from me, a gay guy, that being obsessed with another boy's hair is pretty damn gay. Make out that they're the gay ones. Ask them questions like "Why, are you into me or something?" That put them on the spot. Use the stereotypes against them. Ask them if they're trying to be your "queer eye for the straight guy". By which I mean imply that only a gay guy would be giving another guy fashion tips!

Or, if you prefer, ask them if they're trying to ask you out. Use their homophobia against them. And say that most guys who use gay as a slur are actually crushing on the person they're using it on. Or say "thanks dude! You look pretty gay too!!" That'll really pee them off, so be ready to run for it. Lol And, especially, act like you don't care about being called gay.

You could also say Johnny Depp and Kyana Reeves are long haired men who arn't gay. If they're gonna go see the new Matrix movie, they're gonna be seeing a movie about a guy with long hair.

Also, it would be good to lean into the metal head vibe. Maybe get a spiky wrist strap or something. Every time they call you gay, give them that metal-head gesture. And, finally rock on! :) Metal is cool.

People tend to make fun of anything mostly because they either feel jealous or feel inadequate.

Don’t let them get to you, just do you and don’t worry about what your classmates think

I had a photographer come to my school once when I used to go to high school and he had long hair too. I thought that he looked nice with that hairstyle 🙂

I'm so sorry that people are like this to you. Why are people like this? Because they see something in you that they don't have. They see confidence, beauty, and self-expression. They are jealous of you for having more personality and more confidence than they do. That's why they hate you.

I grew up on an Indian reservation and at one point, I volunteered at a summer camp but was specifically for native American kids. One of the reasons this camp was set up was if native American kids went to normal camps, they would get horribly bullied for their long hair.

This is awful. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Stay strong and brave. Find friends in communities like body modification, where people respect your choice to have your body the way you want it.

I have long hair myself and never gotten negative comments. If your friends do this to you, find better friends. If it is a stranger telling you that, tell them to fuck off and mind their own bussiness.

Actually nvm, I just remembered, my cousin (which is 20 years older than me) told me that I look like a woman. The guy is practically a farmer, and a quick "So what? Mind your bussiness." might have offended him but he never brought it up again.

Bro wear your hair long, wear make up, paint your nails, wear a fuckin dress WHO CARES this is YOUR life that you are living and you can be comfortable by doing anything you want to do within your rights as a human being. My best advice is to try your best to not take criticism to heart ESPECIALLY from random people. Laugh it off and learn to laugh at yourself to keep your confidence high. But this goes both ways, if you see a girl with short hair and in a suit then dont question her and make her feel like you feel here. If you’re comfortable, walk around shirtless or in a tank top, no point getting mad at some girls for showing some skin when you can do the same thing

Women do it because of jealousy. My wife is always jealous of guys with long hair, but she usually compliments it because she's not a bitch. The ones that mock you wish they had it and don't know how to be happy for others.

As for guys, well, they just have a stereotype of what a "real" guy is, and long hair ain't it.
