Where everyone has to say they are equal, and has to praise them

Working with women, especially in the current US environment, is a mine field. That said, I do have to add that younger workers (even as old as late 30's) are also very high risk, whether they be men OR women. I once worked at a large, well-known professional services firm. A young man worked for me, perhaps he was 35. He was at a fairly senior level - the next rung up the ladder was the Partner level. And he went missing once. So I called him, because this was a very important client engagement he had gone AWOL on. And he said "I'm dealing with a family issue". I said "That's fine. Of course, you must do that. Do you have an idea when you'll be back?". That was a reasonable questionable, since one of the firm's clients was basically in limbo until he got back. If he said "It's going to be a while", I would simply have said "Take all the time you need; I'm going to have a different senior manager finish the XYZ engagement". All he said was "I told you it was a family issue!!" As if all discussion about the needs of the other 7 billion people on earth must stop at that point. Later, I heard that he "went white with rage" when I asked him when he might return.

So the point is, women are very sensitive - but we've also trained a generation of young people, men and women, to think the world revolves around them and they deserve a medal for crossing the street.
