Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"
Today, I'm going to talk about selling for Jesus. If you want to make disciples, you need some sales skills - whether that be to sell someone on God, or if you're selling an idea to help teach another Christian about a concept.
First things first, selling God is not like being a used car salesman (although it uses the same mental muscles). A used care salesman is practically required to be deceptive to sell a decent amount of cars - because their product is bad. God is the only perfect product, so he's actually an easy sell.
Beginner's sales concept - there are three categories of people you sell to.
Easy sales, this person was waiting for you to come along and sell to them. Even if your sales skills are horrendous and they can't relate to you in the slightest they will buy. For example, I run an internet service provider, lets say we move our service into a new area and can offer internet speeds that are 10x faster than the competitors, at half the price, with less down time. Practically every time one of our salesman knocks on a door and someone opens it, it should be a sale.
This is the group most sales focus on - the practically guaranteed sales. But usually they do it differently, they churn as many people through to find a select few easy sales, and don't worry about the rest which are all medium or impossible sales. If you talk with enough people about Jesus, even if you are a babbling idiot it will work out sometimes.
Medium-difficulty sales, if the right person was selling to them with the right sales skills, they could be convinced to buy. Sometimes this requires you to be relatable to that person, and sometimes it is your sales skills (speaking fluency, how well you know the product - the Bible in this case, how presentable you look, timing, etc.) These sales can be a lot of effort, so I focus my time elsewhere. Regardless, someone should reach out to them.
Impossible sales, some people just won't buy no matter what you do, and it isn't your fault. With selling Jesus, these are people only God can turn the heart of.
Regardless of what category you assume they are in, try anyways. Sometimes your intuition can be totally off, and I'd much rather go before God and say "I tried" rather than "I didn't think I could sell to him." And you never know when you're actually chipping away at the armor they've built around their heart. And don't get discouraged when you run into an impossible sale, statistically you'll run into an easy sale soon enough.
The majority of people we should be focusing on are easy sales. You could spend all day everyday making easy sales and you and any disciples you make would never get through all the easy sales out there in your lifetime. Easy sales are easy, but SOMEONE still needs to SELL THEM!
Matthew 9:37 "Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few...'"
If you want to train yourself to be the best you possibly can at sales skills, here's a few options I recommend.
1. Work a sales job for 3+ months. Sales is not only one of the highest paying careers, but it also trains the same skills you need for making disciples. I specifically would recommend doing this at a place where you sell a product that is as defective as possible without being unethical. As selling a bad product is faster (and harder) training than selling a good product.
2. Go to Toast Masters - Toast Masters trains you to do public speaking correctly, and it is a good environment to learn quickly, especially for people that may have social anxiety or similar. Great for the type of person who would get fired in one day at a sales job.
3. Make disciples. This will always be the bread and butter of training yourself to do something - actually doing it. Witness to a co-worker, if you go to a good church ask a friend to church, etc.
On top of these general sales trainings, you also need to study the Word, and sharpen yourself with other Christians regularly. Which you can do on the Discord (also in the sidebar). Less-so for converting medium-difficulty sales (which this is also helpful for), more-so for when you convert someone, so that you can help disciple them into being a strong Christian, instead of a weak Christian.
