So a couple months back I posted a job description on one of my school club group chats and I got a couple of messages from people who were interested. Suddenly I get a message from a young man telling me that he is interested in the position and speaks highly of himself based on his experiences as if I was the one who had control in hiring people (Me and my coworkers were letting people know of a position being open at our job) and it got my attention. Long story short, we sent each other messages and questions back to back about the position and how this is something we would like to as a career. Unfortunately he didn’t get the job since he was overqualified and we stopped talking for a bit. Then a couple weeks later he reaches out too me and asks me if I’m interested in a position with a higher salary and how he would help me get the job, I thought it was thoughtful for him even though I already had a stable job (He ended up getting a great position somewhere else)

We stopped talking again for a bit and weeks later I found out I got accepted into a masters program I been dying to get into. I don’t know why but I wanted to let him know and was not expecting much but a “congratulations!” Instead I got a “Let’s celebrate. I want to take you out for dinner”

We been talking since then and I’m starting to like where this is going. When I expressed to him how I felt about texting he was very honest with me and mentioned that he doesn’t want to develop feelings for someone he hasn’t met in person yet and he completely understands and also agrees that texting builds a false sense of intimacy over the phone without meeting first.

Now….going back to my previous posts, I was emotionally abused for a long time and although he hasn’t done anything wrong yet…Every time we talk and things seem to be flowing, my mind starts freaking out and I start thinking “He’s manipulative” “Be careful” “He’s lying to you” “If he thinks I’m easy to fool, the fool is him” “Why the hell is he suddenly interested in me?” just full attack mode and feeling threatened.

I barely text him first, and when he texts me it’s enough for me to not feel overwhelmed by it. I’m excited that we’re finally going to meet soon but how can I not go chewbaca on him because of my past relationship?
