Fear mongering around men is not a harmless thing, that is without real world consequence.

For one, it impacts homelessness.

With these vulnerable men more often seen as dangerous and addicted criminals, or predators, to be left on the streets and kept at a distance.

But the reality is that these men need help too, and are largely only dangerous to themselves.

Let’s take a look at how blanket assertions of men being toxic, or dangerous, or powerful, or violent can have a detrimental impact to homeless men being helped in America.

Let’s look at the sad and needlessly controversial story of New York’s College Point Shelter.

Funny thing, I saw your disenfranchised men post and was gonna comment that they would blame men doing it to other men/patriarchy before seeing this post. Anything to prevent men from being seen as victims, only aggressors.

"If you care so much why don't you start a men's homeless shelter"
Because several people are barely able to get by much less keep something like a homeless shelter afloat. Look at Earl Silverman, mind you it was a domestic abuse shelter but I feel it works just the same. Tell him he should have just tried harder or that he didn't want it bad enough all while the government told him he could go fuck himself.

"Worse things happen to homeless women"
From the same group that will tell you to your face that equal rights isn't a zero sum game! I don't doubt plenty of horrible shit happens to homeless women, but what, you think homeless men are living it up? You don't think they get the shit beat out of them? Told they're worthless and that they should have just made better life choices? That cities don't constantly put up homeless people spikes in the name of "solving the homeless issue"?

"Homeless women and men are probably equal because women are hidden homeless. They are either in a shelter or staying at a friends"
So either they have a shelter (lucky them!) or aren't really homeless. Cool. Next time a guy gets rejected from a homeless shelter because he doesn't have a kid with him I'll tell him "Hey, don't feel too bad, some people out there believe there are more homeless women than we think" It'll cheer 'em right up!

Just for clarification: I don't think equal rights is a zero sum game, but I don't say that while making someone's problem about how it affects me more

There is actually research showing that people more readily typecast men as perpetrators and women as victims.The idea that "men do this to themselves" is one way this bias manifests in real life.A specific example of this is the pervasive narrative that the reasons why men commit suicide at higher rates then women is simply because they choose more lethal methods, and because they don't seek help. This completely ignores the root cause of men committing suicide more then women.A major one is divorce.Divorced men are 9x as likely to kill themselves then divorced women.Here is a video on this subject.I also think false rape allegations might be another minor contributor to the disparity in male and female suicide rates.People also say that women attempt suicide more, but this is actually not true.Of course society doesn't care to actually look at the root causes of the higher suicide rate among men.Instead they just come up with convenient excuses to blame men.

Less attention given to men's health

Thirty years of denying evidence of gender symmetry in domestic violence

Far less media coverage of male victims of the kosovo war compared to females

Ngo's ignoring male victims of sexual violence during wartime

Media worries more about the negative impact of covid-19 on women even though men die more often from covid-19

The idea that something could be done solely for men is one that’s hard to believe and hard to fulfill

Then once they’ve broken us down to Atleast share

They then segregate because women no longer feel safe around the men

Then voilà, everything is for women

It manifests everywhere in society

Make the comparison with race :

"At least they only accept white homelesses, not perfect but still better than one accepting black homelesses".

This is horrendeous.

I wonder if that city decided to concert another female shelter into a male one. Or did they built a male shelter somewhere else my guess is they did not.
