I've been appearing for various cases in various roles for the past two years, The only thing which keeps bugging me is the fact that there are no laws protecting men in any way.

For instance, there are Laws related to protecting women such as,

  • The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956
  • The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (28 of 1961) (Amended in 1986)
  • The Commission of Sati (Prevention) Act, 1987 (3 of 1988)
  • Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005
  • The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (PREVENTION, PROHIBITION and REDRESSAL) Act, 2013
  • The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013
  • The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

I'm not against laws protecting women but why isn't there any laws protecting men? Is it the same in other countries as well?

Men go through struggles too, why isn't anyone talking about it?

Since covid, there has been a severe hike in the divorce cases filed in the court. Even though the husbands want to reconcile the women refuse to do so. I've seen men cry and even fall on their wife's feet, The female clients urge us to get the divorce order as soon as possible so that they can remarry at the earliest.

Recently, men’s rights activists won a landmark case at the Supreme Court. The apex in the suit pronounced that men were victims of domestic violence. However, the bench of the apex court did not make natural the gender law; rather the court asserted that women were merely filing spurious claims against their husbands in cases of domestic violence. While reading the judgment, the court’s bench noted that “most domestic violence cases that were reported were done out of anger over trivial issues. Women did not visualise the consequences and implications of dragging their husbands to court.

Women groups were not happy with the judgment of the Supreme Court. They felt that the court paid attention more to preserving marriages and extended families, rather than their interests. Over 16 women rights groups have since filed a petition before the Chief Justice of India, begging the CJI to intervene so that the apex court’s decision can be reserved.

According to the petition sent to the office of the CJI, the women groups contended that the apex court judgment labelled women as liars, arguing that each passing day a woman is being maltreated by the husband for domestic violence or dowry.

Everyone is scared to voice this out. How is this equality?

I understand that there is a men's rights movement in India but to be honest I didn't know about it till recent times.
