This seems to be an extremely common thing where some ppl decide that a certain group of people only behaves in a certain way because of whether a statistical average landing on that point or the loudest, most obnoxious and visible people from that group behaving in a certain way.

An example is the widespread faulty belief that all men are extremely violent hypersexual machines that want to subjugate everything that moves. The men who do that are extremely visible, but how can we teach some ppl not to erase the remaining overwhelming majority of men?

How do we teach some ppl that the rules they create for dealing with certain groups of people usually work only with the thin minority of people (that they believe everyone in that group is) and hurt everyone else, including them as well?

How do we stop focusing on only the most visible things or on averages that don't represent the extreme variance in people and start being much more adaptive and observant about everyone we meet instead of reading everything they do as some kind of vague confirmation of your already existing beliefs about the group you put them into?

Why do some ppl erase almost everyone from the group who does not fit their beliefs and hyperfocuses only on specific subtypes in specific places and timeframes and ignores the huge numbers of invisible people who stay in their homes and don't expose themselves much?

And why would then those same ppl try to force the "outlier minorities" (who are actually the aggregate mathematical majority) into behaving like what they believe that group should behave like? Cognitive dissonance?

This is very difficult.

Edit: a thin slice anywhere on the bell curve, actually.
