In the US the person paying child support is taxed IF the support order is after Jan 1 2019.

Child support is not deductable.

Spousal support is deductible on your California taxes, but not federal (since 2019)

I have a few friends in California, so I can say what's their case.

For them then it was post tax and tax deductible because of dependents.

Now I don't know the law, I'm not a lawyer but that is the judgement they got, I have to stress though, the child support they are paying is extraordinary, based off potential earnings taken from what their boss earns.

Now they like me are in IT so they are earning a fair amount but their bosses are earning a heck of a lot more and they have to get two levels up above that to make ends meet but if they do then it gets recalculated off the earnings of the next boss above them so they are stuck on a massive hamster wheel until their last payment.

I’m in CA. None of my support payments are tax deductible. Support is calculated on pre-tax earnings. Bonus % is paid pre-tax also. DM me if you want specific questions asked.

Both not deductible. All the more reason to get snipped and never get married.
