Man alive! Alright, here it goes.
Situational TLDR: Wife is an unrepentant alcoholic, verbally, and emotionally abusive, and now it is affecting our children, I'm resolved to separate.
I live in a state that requires a separation period before divorce can be filed, this isn't an issue I am willing to fuss about since I can't change it. However after speaking at length (years) with my counselor and also seeking legal advice from a family lawyer, I have decided to ask her to leave. There are children involved so it will be difficult to get her to leave the family home but I can't leave them with her due to her drinking while I am at work and children are home. 1. I can't leave the primary home because that will be viewed as me being okay with her drinking and her drinking while she is alone with the kids. 2. I can't legally force her to leave unless there is some kind of DV and I report it.
Her parents know about her drinking and that I have been planning an intervention.
My parents know the same information.
So when we do separate it won't come as a shock to either, nor the reason why we separated.
I have been documenting with journalnentirss of the cars and times she drinks, as well as photos of the alcohol (with date time stamps) before she starts drinking and when she is done for the night, for three years now.
I have been in counseling for just as long, while she has not amd also refuses to seek help (which I have pleaded with her to) for her drinking.
That being said, it is very likely that when I bring up separation, she will refuse. What is my recourse at that point because I am not leaving the primary home.
