Hi guys! This is a throwaway account but my main was quite active on here. Mods please let me know if that’s okay.

Background:

My boyfriend (23M) and I (21F) have been together for 1.5 years now. I have been a part of RPW since before the relationship, and I’m glad to report that my boyfriend already bought a ring and is planning on proposing in the next 6 months.

So I major in one of the most lucrative majors there is, and currently even my internship pays more than my boyfriend’s full time job ($54,000 vs $50,000). I expect to be able to earn $100,000+ when I graduate, and I want to be earning $250,000-$500,000 by the time I turn 35.

My boyfriend is also highly intellectual (he is a scientist!) The only reason why he is not also earning 6 figures is because he took a 50% pay dock to stay in his current lab so he can stay near me. It’s honestly insanely romantic.

That said, my boyfriend doesn’t care about money nearly as much as me. I grew up around lots of money and I have made the revelation early on that I am too used to my childhood life style and I don’t want to go without it. I want my children to have what I had. I also don’t want to rely on someone else to give it to me. Hence, my career aspirations.

I think if my boyfriend was to really devote himself to it, he will be able to match my earning potential. However, he is very happy doing his science and I have zero interest in nagging him into a commercial lab, a PhD or med school.

Problem: So my question is, how do I make him still feel super masculine given this future income disparity? Are RPW strategies like compliments and STFU enough?

We have already discussed him doing all of the family accounting (i.e. control what goes into the savings and giving me spending money every month). He really likes planing financial stuff like that and I hate it, so it’s the best option for both of us.
