I get this, and I’ve experienced it, and with all love I’d suggest that a lot of this is about elevating the (projected) opinions of people who don’t deserve a seat at your table or a second of your time. Who cares what people think about your career change - is it working for you? Is it meeting a need you have? Are you building a future that works for you?

Life gets so much better when you stop caring how other people may be judging your choices. You don’t have to deal with having a sense about what people are saying when you are truly focusing on your own path.

Insecurity is a crack that can easily become a floodgate of other people’s opinions and judgement. Patch the crack. Bloom where you are currently planted. Give people something to talk about by being so secure in your choices that their voices are muted in your world.

I like this post and hope it doesn’t get taken down for being a bit hard to read. We haven’t really touched on this kind of embarrassment, either in the personal and professional sense. I hope someone can speak to it beyond the cliche “block and delete”, when it’s not as simple as that, seeing as the old company/guy you kept can absolutely see what you’re doing if they want to (or you just run into each other). I know intellectually one shouldn’t care, but the illogical ego does come into play.

OP if this does get removed for some reason tighten it up so it’s more coherent and try again on FemaleLevelUpStrategy bc I do think it’s worthy of discussion….

I found FDS because of this exact situation! FDS helped me leave my LVM company, I’d already left the loser man in my life.

On the flip side, I've always kind of looked at it this way:

If someone leaves a relationship and ends up with someone of less "status" (in terms of how society values status: looks, height, money, et cetera) I kind of end up thinking "Wow, that person must value this new guy/girl for who they are on the inside. Their ex must have been a really shitty person."

I think it can be the same for companies too. If someone "down-leveled" to a smaller company, maybe it's because they value work they find empowering, a good work/life balance, and a good company culture, things that are often lacking in so-called high status jobs.

And just like with leaving a bad ex, you shouldnt care, even a little bit, what other people think. What your ex thinks. Etc.

You left because it was the best decision for YOU. And that is literally all that matters. If you know "people in common" or old coworkers that you still chat with, if they in any way make you feel bad/lesser than/etc all the things you are talking about, omit them from your life immediately.

Theres a reason our heads dont swivel 180 degrees like a f*cking owl, its because we are meant to always be looking forward, not backwards.

I don’t see how career decisions have a parallel with dating. You gave the example of “my new company is a man I don’t want to be seen in public with”.

Personally, I would never date a man I didn’t want to be seen in public with. Essentially, a guy I’m not into would never have access to me.

Career decisions are a different topic imo. Sometimes you have to transition to a different role in order to move up. This could be taking a position with less responsibilities and lower pay because you’re also focusing on educational requirements & classes for the career/role you’re working towards. You have a short term plan and are happy to discuss it with others because it’s necessary if you want to meet your career goals.

Dating a dude you hate to be seen with looks like pickme behavior because you can’t handle being alone and so you settle.

Perhaps I’m misinterpreting this whole post but, I don’t see the connection to dating down & making career moves.
