My sister in law was a gf of like 12 years before getting married. That is after she had a kid. Her husband is literally a no effort kind of guy and a 50/50 kinda of guy saying that it is “German culture”. My also very German husband doesn’t practice that culture . To add to it my husband can’t stand her husband and literally calls him out every time. I just giggle in the corner

This is my sister right now. She’s been with her baby daddy (the only legal title that ties the two together) for 7 years now. They met in college and now she has a decent job at a local accounting firm (~$55k/year, we live in a city with a lower cost of living than average) but he just works at a chain restaurant as a cook (he never graduated from college).

They live together in a house my sister bought, he drives her car since he doesn’t have one (has wrecked her car a couple of times), and smokes weed during his off days while playing on a ps5 she bought him. Keep in mind that she gave birth to their child 3 years ago. And guess what? She still has no ring on her finger. Not even a promise ring.

I always give a sad little laugh whenever she posts on Facebook referring to him as her “kInG”. If this is a king, I’d really hate to see what a peasant looks like.

Even I as a naive 20 year old knew it was BS when my then lvm boyfriend said he wanted to wait until he was 30 to get married. I said you want to date for 12-13 years?!? GTFO he really had no answer because he’s a LVM and wanted to string me along.

My boss has a girlfriend of over 20 years that he has two kids with. Calls her wife but she never will be. He also is having an affair with our receptionist for a least 6 years if not more and will never leave his "wife" for her. Why would he? He's got them both exactly where he wants them. He's also on dating sites so knows who else he is stringing along, the putrid fuck.

I work with someone just like that and it's disgusting. She makes his meals every single day (and he obviously complains about it). It's just so sad. He is proud to have cheated on every single girlfriend he ever had (but not this one he says, I'm sure it's true!!!) and to never having wore a condom in his life.

My ex of five years had “issues” stemming from his parents’ marriage. I do believe that he actually had a reason…their marriage was very rocky, and their divorce was terrible at first. However, anything in life is a gamble! I pointed out that if his worst fear was ending up like his parents, it wasn’t really all that bad. Today, they are friends, and even sometimes do things alone together. Honestly, that is not worst case scenario! He took me making that point as “proof” that I would divorce him someday. On the other hand, my parents have been happily married 35 years. Why would I voluntarily enter a marriage I planned to leave, when I could hold out for what my parents have? I truly think my ex will be alone forever. Even the “perfect” woman will never penetrate that level of fear, unless he gets help.

I never see these marriages work. If a guy is serious about marrying a woman, he will. It's like how so many LVM rapid fire propose to any woman they feel particular horny for. A HVM wants to get married and is clear in his intentions. He ain't waiting a decade.

I was engaged after a year together. Discussions were honest from the beginning that we were dating for marriage as an end goal and not to just try people out. We both wanted to pursue actual commitment. It was honestly refreshing to not be going through the typical motions of "Will he ask me to be his exclusive girlfriend??"

Oh man that story about your boss. I knew someone together with his gf since High School. Year 7-ish of the relationship friends ask him if he’s ready to get married he gave a very firm “no”. He left her two years later for a girl he apparently had been sleeping with on and off for at least 8 years 😵‍💫 he was my friend and seemed like such a HVM.

That's a very good point because there's been men I've encountered that have these long term relationships and it's very clear that aren't into the person they live with either out of fear of being alone or just not wanting the drama of a separation.

You have no legal protection as an unmarried partner. When I was married I made sure my name was on all documents for a reason including the lease. I wasn't gonna be a victim like these other fools who want to play house and not know their rights. You choose to be ignorant.
