What I find is that people who behave like this are counting on you shrinking or having a fawn response where you try and placate them or cow tow to them to stop the bad behavior- especially if you’re perceived as being too quiet/ introverted to do anything else. But it’s also well within your power to go the opposite way and expand instead of shrinking into yourself. A game of force was being played where it’s like we all know we were talking about you openly and rudely in front of your face an…

Season 2 Penelope needs to learn this with Colin. She constantly pedestals him- listening to his overlong letters, entertaining his dumb philosophy. He’s really not that clever and a bit of a navel gazing wind bag. She is the star- not him. She’s far wittier and cleverer and quite a good business woman too if you see how she bargains and asserts with the printers end eludes everyone, and also shrewdly joins forces in a mutually beneficial relationship with the seamstress- Madame Delacroix. She h…

Yes, which is even worse. I see many men get off on/ amusement from dicking women around emotionally and in conversation and watching them get upset and struggle. It’s been done to me even in the workplace. Everything you feel that doesn’t slam them in their place in a way that’s shocking and unexpected to them is a joke to them- something to dick around as lame. Or laugh at

I believe it does. But if she made those comments could be that they’re living off what he saved from it. Also they were together several years before she gave him the ultimatum that he better marry her. So they were likely living off it during that time while living together

I recently watched something where someone was talking about how strange they find Nick and Vanessas marriage and interactions as displayed by their hosting of the Ultimatum. They and others said they felt Vanessa was insecure in how she kept bringing up her own ultimatum that she gave to Nick to marry her and how the show often almost felt like marital therapy for them as the hosts as much as for the contestants and how she seemed too invested in that story and slightly resentful, while Nick at…

I’ll up you one- it’s the same for men who seem to move heaven and earth to get to you, with grand gestures and outsize effort and then withdraw suddenly- acting almost repulsed by you and annoyed with your presence and expecting you to chase them and fawn over them to regain their mercurial little favor. They’re not real men, they never genuinely wanted you- just the thrill of proving they could chase and catch you and then once that was over the thrill and ego boost of having you act slightly …

The first two options are both lines that would just get you clowned at or laughed at as being overly formal or stupidly prim. Then they’ll start picking at you further Same with- “you know what i don’t really feel like hanging out any more”. You would be laughed into the ground with that and look so lame and stupid. This is it. It’s a boundary test of how much they can humiliate or subtly neg you while you try to tolerate it and act like it doesn’t hurt. They get off on if you explode too or try to end the date or become cold. You’ll be messed around with an ugly “what’s wrong?? why are you mad?? Omg she’s acting weird because i’m not taking her to the dance thing like I’m supposed to care?? You really thought I should take you???” You’ll be mocked as lame and stupid if your mood does change in a way that t…

Even men you don’t want who perceive you as making the first move/ or wanting them will start resenting you. I went to physical therapy shortly for a simple condition. We had an immigrant boy there who they basically had on as charity watering the plants and washing the gym towels. I’m sure he barely made anything. She was like the lowest level worker in the entire office, but I was super kind to him and tried to engage him/ ask him about himself. I was coming there super nicely dressed off the …

Yeah I really feel it’s more about venting anger they still hold toward her. Wanting to shame and degrade women as a whole still/ her, not looking for compassion/ sympathy. More so wanting to shame her and have the validation of someone else believing she’s a stupid slut too, and that their anger is justified. If she’s so crazy why not be sympathetic towards her or concerned about getting her help

Another thing I want to point out is that just because you say good morning and are always polite doesn’t mean you’ll be exempt or that they’re attempts to smear you won’t stick or work. There doesn’t need to be anything legitimate there for them to do it especially if you or quiet and they are forcefully loud and adamant about it going from person to person. They’re stupid and they’re wrong but as someone who has put up with this heavy (being labeled antisocial or being resented for thinking i’m better or not socializing/ being part of the crowd) on jobs, be very very watchful of how the level of resentment people develop over your perceived standoffishness. Even women judge other women for putting up with too much or being dumb. It’s not even exclusive to men although that lack of compassion is far more universal among their sex than ours. It’s an ugly part of human nature in general but it’s amplified times 10 in men. Aren’t most men constantly seeking sympathy because their ex was “crazy” No, Id argue they aren’t doing that at all. When women lead with describing an ex who was crazy or obsessive they’re looking for someone to acknowledge and vali…

Suggests he must be a dud too if that’s all her past roster includes (I don’t think he genuinely believes this though he sure suggested it) OR and i think this is what the main problem is 2. This guy realizes it’s a him problem and not a her problem Does he really? I don’t think he does. Like only on surface but his angry tone even in discussing it suggests to me he still feels justified in his feelings even if he’s asking for “advice” on the surface. It’s probably more a request for confirmation and consensus on how shitty and lame she is because he really doesn’t sound all that sorry or contrite. I know you mean well. And I agree there was probably a smoother way to do this, but I don’t think the response you suggested is very good at all. That’s just too many words and kind of corny/ strained/ not the right tone. That would’ve looked lame too. But that just underscores the overall difficulty of the situation that although everyone knows it could’ve been handled better no one can actually tell us exactly how or offer a better alternative that isn’t other universe cheesy or clownable I do…

I guess what I’m trying to bring out is that I don’t think people realize what a struggle it is as a black person in this country just to feel like you’re keeping your loved ones protected every day. And how the trauma of that and feeling constantly undermatched to the task could lead to someone snapping and feeling they just have to do something. A lot of times the black men who are called on to protect black women in these spaces don’t even feel they have the leverage and social acceptance the…

Why is anyone even focused on the fact he laughed at first? It has zero relevance. People laugh all the time when they are uncomfortable or put on the spot. It’s a way to cope. What the heck else was he gonna do with like 10 live cameras panned in his face at an internationally televised event but laugh and try to play it off/ brush it off. Yes, I’m in a similar line and salty older women in HR and Office management space are the main gatekeepers playing games to keep other womens pay low while getting the max work out of them or keep them in one position for years and years with no growth, pretending there’s no way they can be moved. One thing I you said that I agree with greatly is how women are taught to make do with less on every point- respect, attention, love. Whenever something bothers us we’re taught to manage ourselves and our feelings about it down. Shrink and suppress, rather than grow, boss up bigger than the situation and leave it behind, seek better- which is what a man would do. We’re told- well you’ll just have to “be the bigger person” (which is code for shrink), scolded that we need to learn how to control o…

I agree with most of this except maybe the last two paragraphs- I don’t think clipping is necessary unless you’re really in a tight space. Yes you can save but I prefer to direct my attention to making more, even through a side hustle which I think reaps better benefits. But saving is not an either or dichotomy. It exists on a spectrum. Just because you don’t clip coupons doesn’t mean you don’t know how to live within your means or avoid paying full price or are a total wastrel with money. I ref…

We don’t all start with the same advantages but no one is bound to live one way forever. The main thing about coupon clipping is that it keeps us distracted from higher value a…

Oh it’s not. I know that as I’ve experienced it but it’s far more common among women. I man may play those games if you’re associated with him and he thinks dragging down his image but it’s not as common as you find it among women for things like i feel she’s a bitch or didn’t smile at me enough. It’s possible to receive really strong relational bullying from women who are just bare acquaintances. It’s not as common among men as they’re not as strongly social as women

The men are exploitive. They want someone young and pretty for 1. Sex 2. Social clout 3. To bend to their will and make into whatever they want 4. As a maid or carer for their kids and homes Why must she be exploited by him and not get what she wants out of it as well. Why are you so focused on where he’s being exploited by her and not at all as where he sought to exploit her. You were trying to play someone and got played yourself. Why should we not expect some women to exhibit the same flaws as some men Of course one does but it goes beyond that. Yes, both men and women are obviously going to have flaws. But because women’s strength is in their community and ability to work collaboratively and connect- it often makes them far worse relational bullies than men. Just because they place a higher emphasis on social connection to begin with and are more adept at how to use it- for better or for worse. That means when they use …

I really don’t find this a relevant excuse at this point. Maybe in Corporate America in the 80s. Even then, people are still 100% responsible for how they choose to behave. That argument can be used for just about anything. I’m a black person. You don’t think “there can only be one” exists there? Even more so, and yet usually when I meet other blacks in the workplace it’s a source of instant comraderie not automatic rivalry. Women need to take responsibility for how they choose to behave in that…

It’s all about male entitlement and how they think our sex is just made to shrink and continue to self sacrifice in the face of extreme discomfort. There’s a riddle that they say is a great way to get to know people: I have a magic potion. It will grant you: Love, Wisdom, Glory, or Power Which would you take? I asked the men on my job that I was most friendly with and dealt with daily. They all swore they would choose wisdom but then at the end confessed all of them really wanted power, but no one wanted to say it out loud. They were answering wisdom because it was the socially acceptable answer. All agreed unanimously that they don’t give …

They 100% cause suicidal ideation even in people who’ve never been treated for that and have never had that before in their life. Yes, it can 100% create that feeling out of nothing. You can be depressed and fat from suicidal. 1/4 of the population will be clinically depressed at one point or another and that’s only the portion willing to admit to it. Sure the true number is far higher. Yet most of these people will probably never be suicidal

Yeah, I’m well aware the world isn’t exactly kind to assertive women but it’s even more unkind to passive ones, if you know what I mean. I honestly think girls need to be raised with a lesser emphasis on being “good”/ “nice”/ “respectful” and a much higher emphasis on self confidence and self respect. Not those who see themselves using you (for money, talent, social status, looks). Since you like Harry here’s another a similar analogy from there I’ve long applied in my life. It comes from the scene where Harry uses the time turner to go back in time. Watching from the bushes he runs into himself being attacked by dementors. Having already lived th…

It doesn’t surprise me the same dynamics exist in nursing/ healthcare. It’s the same structure- an old profession with what was for a long time a mainly male upper class, supported by a mainly all female support team. And yes, Ive heard a great deal about older women in nursing being bullies to their own, which doesn’t surprise me as I see frequent elements of it in law

I think a lot of them know it hasn’t worked to their advantage. Ive had some within the office say it to me in moments of frankness. But there are others who are kind of blind to it and get really bullish and defensive trying to push there way on me. It’s almost like they can smell the difference in attitude and approach on me although I make no declarations and it offends them as a rejection of how they’ve lived. Kind of a strange phenomenon but you do get a sense of some of them trying to thro…

What I see is that they take up more space than female secretaries but still significantly less than male attorneys. In 15 years I can only think of 3 that insisted on being just as loud as the men. I don’t think they receive the same pressure to shrink and whisper that I do from older female secretaries because they out rank them, so those women don’t feel able to impose. But because I share the same title and have less seniority they look at me as less/ under them and someone who must listen t…

Being high value does not always mean “taking the high road”. Especially if he’s tried to character assassinate or ruin your reputation through a smear campaign or exposing private things. In those situations I think you do whatever you have to to put things in their place and sometimes that may involve some level of intimidation or meeting him where he’s at as that’s all they’ll heed or respect. If they “don’t understand” they’re part of the problem. Further, comments about women having it way better than years ago show exactly what the problem is. It isn’t that they don’t understand it’s that they don’t think the complaints are valid or worth anything. They think women should shut up and be happy they’re not being treated like they were in the 60s. That their current treatment is good enough. Imagine saying that to a black person? One of the biggest cons men have affected is making women feel they need to be silent after a relationship to prove they’re not the crazy ex or overaffected and over upset about it or to not come across as “unclassy” It’s allows men as a whole to continue to perpetuate many crimes against women while taking for granted the woman will be tight lipped about them in public and with society because it’s frowned upon as tacky for her to do anything else

Yes, this is a lot of what I was trying to express about the downside of this attitude but didn’t get into entirely. I’ve done posts on it more fully in the past- but yes, it does perpetuate and allow them to get away with quite a lot and it’s going to take us being a lot louder and making certain relationship behaviors publicly shame-able by society to change the norm. Which is why I love that Taylor swift speaks out publicly rather than just letting shit go silently when men have wronged her I…

Whoever can trigger your feeling controls you Why is this idea only ever applied to women, though. Men express inappropriate anger all the time at things women do and they’re not given this morally superior, condescending talk down about “Well if she’s getting you that upset she clearly controls you and you’re weak”. That logic is only ever used to shame female displays of anger. And the fact that it’s never applied to men- Male anger is still allowed to equal control and power while female ange…

But women need to learn to separate their feelings from their external expressions I don’t want to say to this is a form of victim blaming, but I don’t feel we have an obligation to hide feelings that are valid. If a person is angry that you mistreated them what does anyone expect. That’s totally to be expected. It may not change the situation but it may be necessary for that person to express. I don’t like the idea that we should have to put on a false face about anything. I feel like it’s just…

I can get with this. I still hold my viewpoint for certain situations but I love and agree with yours as well for others By the same token, like there’s no way you should be in a 5 year marriage to someone complete with multiple kids, etc and they cheat and you have to act un-angry or unaffected by it or like you barely noticed. I’m not saying that getting upset changes things. But it is natural and it’s more for you. I do believe at some point the pressure to seem unaffected and un-angry gets r…

They try to make the threshold for address so high in emotional fuckery we have to put up with from them that we don’t try. It is a very purposeful training on their part to silence us and get us to keep quiet/ fear brining you the things they don’t want to hear. What you said about them wearing us down until the …

They’re way more subtle than the traditional love bomb though they’re doing something that amounts quietly to the same. Honestly though, this imposed forgetfulness when a relationship ends, at risk of being crazy shamed as “nutty” or “too affected” or “not moving on” has long been weaponized by the patriarchy to silence women on male shittyness It is a tool used to hold women’s tongues and shame them into shutting up or not speaking about the wrong things that went on behind closed doors, inside a relationship, the violence, both emotional and physical, perpetrated by men. I disagree with this as it relates to women. Men typically will not treat you better than they treat themselves. Women do that often and in spades. The best way to handle gaslighting is to gaslight them back. Pack up your shit and go all while insisting everything is fine. Nah, babe there’s nothing wrong. We’re good. Let them beg for an answer, all while insisting nothings changed and it’s all in their head. If you tell them the truth. You did x and I don’t like it. They’ll just gaslight you and the balance of power shifts once again in their favor. They’ll insist that they didn’t do it. That you’re crazy, nuts etc. If you get upset any emo…

“You seem to be struggling with the idea that people can be complex” That’s a stretch. I simply said the math wasn’t mathing. And it wasn’t. The idea that she only gave away $1/2 million was incorrect math, improperly done multiplication. My struggle was with how your comment related to the actual story at hand. Or are you saying that Sara the Spanx head is somehow a work pick me? If so, how? She didn’t get 1.2B. The company was valued at 1.2B when the majority stake sold to Blackstone. Blackstone also did not buy the whole company. They bought a majority share- depending on who else owns a portion we don’t know what percentage even constitutes a majority. The highest possible option is 51%. 51% of a company valued at 1.2B is the highest she could’ve gotten and that is still only about half of what you all are assuming. They try to make the threshold of emotional labor you have to do to be heard by them and communicate so high that you don’t even try. That you never object or complain or try to advocate to get your needs met It’s an ugly game of feigned ignorance and deafness meant to wear you down to the point where you don’t speak. It’s a form of control. You’re being actively trained not to ever inconvenience them by complaining. They’re doing this by actively showing it gets you nowhere

I don’t believe men need sex to feel emotionally open. You can give it to them and still never get that. But if they get no sex they use it as an excuse for why they can’t have emotional intelligence or do any emotional labor in the relationship. So it’s kind of a Catch-22. Mostly, I think they just use it to hold women hostage for physical gratification. Another example of this: All the women lead voices in the 60s James Bond movies were redubbed by one woman to give them a certain uniformly soft sexy sound. Essentially they all have the same soft feminine voice and the exact voice, no sense of individuality. Anytime a woman speaks. Even when it’s on her own experience they think you’re asking to be validated by them. For them to tel you if what you saw really happened, if your perception is right or wrong. They don’t take it as you giving them a hard incontrovertible fact In fact, to them, the very fact that you’re bothering to have a convo with them shows you’re malleable/ not that firm in self or that they can move in on top of you and run things, mold your thought to what they feel

Yes, they feel entitled to your sticking around so they can abuse and punish you. The ultimate God play is to opt out entirely and they reel when that option to humiliate and degrade you is pre-empted or withdraw

The kicker is always when I tell them don’t reach out again. Even if I leave them over disrespect they always try to desperately cling on as a friend or still talk and imagine I’ll want to do that or somehow need that. And are floored to find out I don’t want that either. GTF away from me

“…then the disrespect starts” And doesn’t it always start. The ironic part is that I’m not even perceived as kind. I’m perceived as both a pushover and a b*tch at the same time. I don’t bother much with people so they’ll perceive me as a bitch both to women and other men. Everyone they think- except for them. When it comes to them they think I’m a pushover and a fool. That I treat everyone else bad but have googoo eyes just for them. It’s a weird combo where they think I’m only sweet to them and…

The legit went to my boss and everyone i had to work with to put in their ears that I was a bitch and rude and to make them dislike me too based on them not liking my demeanor and straight face and speech. It’s not like they feared my lack of performative femininity would get me kicked out and were trying to keep me on target. No, I had 5 star reviews and my bosses favor. They were the danger trying to fuck up my livelihood and check and basically push me out over some lame anger at my demeanor …

They’re all older but there were one or two who absolutely knew it wasn’t true based on how helpful Id been to them on the job. So it’s like they knew better but based on length of friendship with her and her force of words. They began actively constantly looking hard for any sign of rudeness in me. He does have the higher net worth of the two if you google ($75 v 29 million). But I think people are probably downvoting this because those figures don’t take into account the wealth of the Hadid family in general which is likely considerable/ huge from real estate and development and Zayn pretty much has no one in his family with money. So despite her having earned less from modeling than he has from 1D, she still has far deeper pockets and resources of the two

Yes, why did that version of you tolerate it is the most important question? What was wanting in you that made you accept disrespect or incompetence for however long you did. Look closely at that and fix it- whether it was a lack of boundaries, low self esteem, the thought you couldn’t do better, etc It’s important to identify what was wanting in you, not that made you cause it, because it’s certainly not your fault. But that made you accept it for however long you did

“Kennedy's infidelity literally drove his wife mad, claims the book.” 🙄 No it fucking didn’t. Totally fucking annoying how happy and gleeful people are to say this about women. They just tried to paint her as crazy when they got pushback from her over it which is not the same thing

Yes, he didn’t genuinely support the civil rights movement at all. He was avoidant of it and actually dismayed to find out what a good orator MLK was.

Also quit my fancy job and am ghosting a friend of 10 years whose passive aggressiveness I can no longer stand. Scary place. I’ve cleared out the old but am not yet sure of receiving new. Trying to keep the faith that better is coming soon.

Rule 12: Angry women are crazy. Angry men have trouble expressing themselves. My boss branded me a crazy for expressing anger/ irritation with mismanagement and a years long disparity in my promotion time v others. Years worth of bullshit and I needed to remain silent on it to be sane or else he would whisper about it and make sly insinuations to others over my head until my mental health was being whispered and winked about openly in the space Meanwhile, he could lose his shit and act RAGINGLY …

🧐 Full disclosure. Some of it is motivated by self interest because I find him hot but I’ve been around his kind and suspect he’s got a spirit of misogynistic entitlement that most men with his background tend to carry. So sad…he’s exactly what I tend to be attracted to but his bad behavior ruins my feels. I’m interested to see if this marriage lasts and if so, at what behind the scenes personal cost to his young wife, Sabrina.

That’s typical of African and West Indian men. They’ve been taught the world revolves around them and women should always serve and yield. He’s always had a wandering eye. And has been known to keep like 2 women at the same time, as K Michelle testifies to. She also said dating him was a fairy tale until she found out he had a whole other woman pregnant and she was the side chick. He’s had 3 marriages all to similar looking women who he all abandoned. Tbh, I suspect he’s a narcissist. That’s why…

Unrelated but 1-2 weeks ago you posted Idris Elba for FAF Friday. Thought you might be interested in this. There was some debate in the thread as to whether he was HV or not. He recently admitted to “massive anger tantrums” while dating his now wife and telling her to “just leave/ get out” if she can’t handle it: https://www.nbcrightnow.com/lifestyles/entertainment/idris-elba-offered-wife-ultimatum-over-rows/article_d9e8866d-5568-5dd5-b26f-67ee42bde83d.html Thought of here when I read it. Awful but can’t be worse than Scary Spices abusive piece of shit husband. Who physically abused her, pushed her into threesomes and made sex tapes of said orgies he held over her head and blackmailed her with, fucked the nanny and triangulated her with the girl- telling her she wasn’t as young or hot and needed to compete/ put up with him using her money to wine and dine her and also bring her on vacations (apparently a common tactic in toxic celeb relationships) Even Posh/ David Beckham is a su…

Yes, I commented my experience with this with male bosses in the workplace. I communicated about a situation that was microaggressive and abusive. He ridiculed my expressions, did nothing about it. I left. He claimed he didn’t see it coming. His shock wasn’t that I was unhappy. It was that he couldn’t manipulate and control me like he thought he could. It has a lot to do with male entitlement to female self sacrifice even in the face of pain.

Exactly. It’s even occurred for me with male bosses. I expressed what was making me unhappy with the environment. They ridiculed my expressions and allowed the problematic behaviors marginalizing me to continue. I left. My boss kept saying over and over in a wail: I did not see this coming. She wasn’t happy. No shit sherlock. He knew damn well I’d complained formally to our office administrator and to him several times to rectify a situation that was microaggressive and abusive to me. He wasn’t …

Yes, Hispanic and Caribbean cultures expect women to have more servant tasks but are also more open to them- expressing anger, having an attitude etc. Anglo culture is built around dissimulation and any outward display of anger especially for women is frowned upon so both women and men sublimate it passive aggressively to preserve a certain outside image. All anger has to be expressed indirectly. Men do it, but it’s worst of all for women
