Does this help me keep the house or anything like that? The custody time I’m not worried about we will definitely go 50/50, I’m just curious how her leaving could effect division of assets? Furniture, house, cars etc.
I would plan to let her keep her car (the more expensive/valued of the two by far) as an attempt to gain ground elsewhere (furniture house etc) plan of refinancing the house and paying her the equity to keep it and give her a start at a new life.
I know it says fair and equitable division of assets so I figure almost $90k from the home equity to use as a down payment on her new place and pay off her car ~$32k. I take on a new larger mortgage that I can afford and that should give me some leverage right? I know ask a lawyer and I will, right now I’m asking for experiences.
In indiana if that helps (spousal support is capped at 3 years if she even meets the requirements) so hopefully I can dodge it or at least pay very little on top of child support.
