We need to treat false accusations the same as the accusations the person is making. Stop letting these people roam free to do it to other people. They need to be on a list of know false accusers too.

Yes, we need a false accuser registry. An estimated 11% of men and 6% of women have been falsely accused of abuse. I'm sure sexual abuse is similar in number.

The falsely accused ARE THE VICTIMS!

[–]63daddy 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those who make false accusations are rarely held accountable, making it prone to abuse. Police and DAs need to come down on false police reporting which is a crime. More women who commit defamation need to be sued.

The other less talked about related issue however is the sports leagues, colleges and employers who are taking action against men and/or denying men opportunities based on unproven hearsay. They are just as responsible IMO. If these institutions refused to take actions against men based on hearsay, MeToo would be dead in the water. When organizations deny men opportunities without just cause, they also need to be held more accountable.

Fuck she deserves jail.

I think you missed the whole point of this.

Well, either he had his life ruined by a lie. Or he had his life ruined by sexually assaulting someone. We will never know since there was no evidence of guilt or innocence.

That's not how it's supposed to work. The whole point of innocent until proven guilty is people don't judge for these things. The problem is humans are judging in the first place and the women are wonderful effect is killer for men trying to live a life.

[+]aFriendToAll4 -16 points-15 points-14 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

No. The point of innocent innocent until proven guilty is so no one is jailed for crimes without a trial. Innocent until proven guilty is a legal concept. It does not protect you from judging and people being suspicious of you.

There's no law that no one can believe anything bad about anyone until they are found guilty. Much like there's no law against believing this woman that accused this man is a liar.

[–]wanthonio31 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, it shouldn't be like that either. Just because the case doesn't happen in the court room doesn't mean that there shouldn't be an expectation to not preemptively judge people on an accusation whether it's in or outside of the courtroom.

Especially without something conclusive to put aside their character for at least courtesy the accused person.

The law extends to customs and social norms. We don't find a person guilty without evidence and if we do we are acting as judge, jury and executioner. It's not moral or ethical but those are "patriarchal" values.

No. But you cant just go around assuming everyone is innocent unless they've been convicted. Cosby didn't get a conviction. I'm still not taking any drinks from him in his hotel room. We all use our jusgement every day with every story we hear.

Feel free to not believe in the criminal justice system and making your own decisions. That's your right. But in general inability to prove guilt implies innocence.

Since due process has been so under attack lately I can't emphasize this enough.

[+]aFriendToAll4 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

inability to prove guilt implies innocence.

That's not how the justice system works AT ALL. You need to be certain beyond any reasonable doubt to convict someone. Which means to convict them, you have to be certain. Even if you are only 70 percent sure someone is guilty, you have to declare not guilty.

Even if they are more likely to be guilty than innocent, you still say not guilty of you have reasonable doubts.

[–]throwawayincelacc 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just to be clear, you're seriously arguing that verbal accusation should be enough to put anyone behind bars?

Because that's how you end up with slippery slopes in a justice system.

"Maybe he got a coworker to punch in and out of work for him or maybe he slipped out while on break to go kill that man. We don't have any proof he actually did any of this, or any proof that he killed that man, but we don't need proof"

[–]Clemicus 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Cosby didn't get a conviction.

He went to prison and was eventually released because the judge screwed up and used sealed court documents as evidence

[–]Diesel-66 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

DA gave him criminal immunity so the civil trial would pay out. Then used that same confession to charge him

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

you cant just go around assuming everyone is innocent unless they've been convicted

It's much better to go around assuming random people are innocent, than assuming they are guilty and need to have their careers and lives ruined.
