As society trends in a secular direction, people are moving away from marriage and into committed relationships without marriage. With divorce rates hovering around 50% in most western countries and divorce courts typically favoring the lower earner, which is almost always the woman, there doesn't seem like much of an incentive for men to marry.

Back in the day, men needed to get married for a woman to engage in sex - but with the rise of promiscuity and abundance of premarital sex, this is no longer the case. Men can receive all the benefits of marriage without the risks of marriage (namely financial redistribution) through cohabitation. Taking into account that the average woman has 7 or so sex partners in her lifetime, marriage seems like a losing deal for men. As the saying goes, "Why buy a cow that gives its milk for free?" I find it kind of pathetic to fully commit to a woman who has given herself over to so many men - men who committed nothing to her. It makes the married man a sucker, really.

With this in mind, what is your view in the rise of cohabitation? To me, is just seems to be the logical response to the times we live in. I understand the Bible condemns premarital sex, but what constitutes a marriage by Biblical standards is muddy waters. The Bible never specifies exactly what it means to be married. And I'm pretty sure early Christians would be opposed to contemporary legal marriages -with the government as the authority source, the same one that views gay marriages as valid.
