Many things they talk about are in the category of "fair questions." They pick a situation in which there is an apparent inequality of the sexes. Then they use methods of criticism to draw conclusions.

The hostility arises when you attempt to use the same methods of criticism, of to draw conclusions, but you apply those methods more thoroughly, and reach a more substantiated conclusion.

For example, a more obvious disparity you could critique would be the conspicuous fact that department stores always showcase products intended for adult women in their prime commercial locations, and hide products intended for men and children in their secondary locations. Space is always allocated first for adult women, second for female children, third for adult men, and last, for male children. It is logical for them to do that, and one can easily surmise from their behavior an important conclusion: even though men put more hours into the workforce, women spend more money than men.

Now there are a handful of feminists that can listen to such a criticism and acknowledge the obvious inequity but place it in the context of other inequities. Those are the non-man-hating ones that temper ad qualify their belief in feminist principles. They exist, but they are not as visible in public or academic discourse, and they do not have much influence on policy. Then there are those who can come up with excuses for the apparent inequity, arguing, for example, that it is only the wives of wealthy men who profit from this kind of inequity, and therefore, women, at large, actually suffer from it. Then there are the kind of rabid man-haters that appear on the internet. They become instantly hostile when someone uses any kind of critical methods of the same kind they use, precisely because they know how easy it is to destroy their arguments in this way. They are overrepresented on the internet, because they are on bullshit sites and apps all day long.

The manosphere also suffers from this weakness, I would argue. But it is not difficult to find high quality content. But it would be nice if rules of a forum could be constructed in such a way as to produce the highest value. Not merely a "shotgun" one grabs, when they sense they are losing an argument. I feel there needs to be an academic field, just as there is for gender studies, but gender studies applied to gender, not just to the interests of adult white women. Perhaps, instead of criticizing the hate mongering of the opponent, the rational majority should cultivate our own field, ignore the ignorant minority, and triumph in that way?

I got banned in that subreddit for suggesting that men watch more TV then women, that men are more interested in men's lives then women's lives (showed demographics that illustrated both points), and asked whether men were allowed to have have their own preferences in TV.

I was banned for "upholding the patriarchy".

Only feminists care about the gender makeup of things. Rest of us just want a freaking decent story. Shit acting? Nope. Bad story line? Nope. Mangled/unfollowable writing? Nope.

I've watched shows/movies that are predominantly female or female lead... Don't care. Some of my favorite authors are female. Don't care. The stories are good and that's all I care about.

Women are more salient to men than other men are - we grab attention. When they appear or speak, we tend to be memorable for men.

Either way, I showed this to my husband and he said “you know I’ve been thinking you girls are really outnumbering us in this family.” There’s two girls and two boys in our family :)

Another possibility: it’s more expensive to hire a woman actress than a man(at lower levels of fame). Danny Trejo probably has done 10 movies in the time it’s taken to write this .

Also been picking this up about women and video games. It's not that women didn't like video games it was just because there wasn't more male objectivity and more female objectivity, you reverse that and the very feminists "gamers" criticizing the gaming industry suddenly no longer are and there are more female gamers.
