This doesn't surprise me. The two days have always been treated unequally. I worked in hospitality for five years and female coworkers with kids were always allowed the entire weekend off for mother's day, where as with father's day, most male coworkers were still forced to work, often under threat of termination. The hypocrisy doesn't surprise me, but the illogic that baffled me was the fact that every restaurant or fast food joint I ever worked in was always busier on mother's day compared to father's day

Let's not seek reasons to be insulted. Juneteenth is a legitimate holiday and black folks have been celebrating it possibly since it happened after the civil war. Note that it happened (in Texas) because the white leadership did not tell anyone that slavery was illegal for 2 years, and thus kept the status quo until the feds sent the military to spread the word.

Sure, it's unfortunate that "our day" is scheduled near that independence day, but let's face it - we are lesser people if we resent it. Juneteenth is worthy of celebration.
