Most MRP material will "gloss over this part of kids" as well as gloss over most everything in specifics for your life. Sure, pick-up skills, lifting, gaming, etc ... those are important skills to hone; there are a lot of important skills to hone. But the entire ethos of MRP is to not copy somebody else's notes/book/method. Make your own way.

Read anything/everything regarding raising your children the way you want to raise them. Take in what's good. Discard what's bad. Review/tweak along the way. Don't let your ego get in the way if you see past steps you've taken that were "wrong."

If you've got a great partner, then she'll be reading and sharing what she thinks with you. Listen, review, implement as necessary. Hopefully you'll learn and work as a team in a similar direction.

But specific RP material regarding kids??? Meh ... not so much.

Don’t look only in MRP for this. Devour parenting books, all mainstream ones you can find and then expand on areas you find interesting or areas you’re weak in.

Good parenting requires absolute sacrifice of the ego. Your job is to pour love into your kids, validate their experience and emotions (the latter is hard for fathers to sons), and most importantly, allow and support them to make their major decisions in life, especially early ones like what highschool to attend and what courses to specialize in.

When you get out of their way, allow them to make their own decisions, and simply be there to support them, you create a strong sense of self/identity that carries kids through the mid 20s and 30s reality checks that I’ve personally seen fuck up a lot of young people.

I recommend “There’s a hole in my love cup”. I learned a lot from that book.

Having kids is arguably the pinnacle of the human experience. Good luck brother.

Dad university on YouTube has some practical tips and tricks. Surprisingly, MMSLP and WISNIFG has some solid mindsets for being a father / parent.

Overall, the first few years you really just need to keep the baby alive. They give plenty of learning in day cares, plus being around other kids helps them develop accordingly.

Until they start talking in short sentences, that's when you need to be on top of them as that's when they start pushing boundaries and try to be independent.

One of the ressources that have helped me the most with kids are Dr Becky Kennedy’s strategies for handling kids (I think it’s useful for kids aged 18 months and more).

Incidentally everything she says is very useful to fix my nice guy attitude towards my wife using some very simple principles : she is responsible for her feelings and I’m responsible for the boundaries ; take a step back and do a reality check in front of a tantrum ; and so on.

the basics of RP still apply... meaning read a shit ton of stuff and just like RP throw out the shit that doesnt make sense.

the first year is basically dont let the baby die and understand you are going to be shit balls tired. if this is kid one it is even worse but then it gets better

Reread the side bar mate, think of all the reasons you’re here, all the things you got from the sidebar then apply it to parenthood.

Specific example, my wife will not be getting/having/allowed to have the same level of influence that my mother had. If I get a boy I will be doing everything I can to make sure he never ‘needs’ to read NMMNG, or WISNIFG.

I hope he’s never on a sub trying unfuck his life, and learn how to be attractive, and stop being unattractive. There’s a heap of stuff you were giving the got you/me/the rest of us here, see if you can stop that with you.

Honestly it’s all in NMMNG and WISNIFG, and setting the example you needed.

It’s easy to cede control to your wife about babies or young children. Don’t just let it happen. If she is better situated to make some decisions or oversee something (e.g., how to breast feed), delegate those to her. Pick other topics for you to control or focus on. One of which might be how to have fun. Or how to change things around the house to fit a baby. Or what car seats are safest. Don’t just be deadweight (I was, and it was a mistake).

You have to be your own point of origin on what needs to be done with the baby, what life with a baby looks like, and what your mood is. It is easy for the mom to get wrapped up in being worried and concerned. You don’t want to tell her she is wrong for feeling that way, but you should still be in a good mood, try to have fun sometimes, and pull her along with you.

If you need to take the baby out in public or to a park on your own or whatever, figure out how to do it on your own terms. Not just, I will go to the place she tells me, when she tells me, and I will bring the bag my wife gives me with the things she puts in it, and then do the things she said to. Go sometimes because you want to. Take the things you want. Or go for a jog twice a week. Get one of those things you can push a baby in. Then you can disappear with the baby for 30-45 minutes. (I don’t like cardio, but a little bit is good)

I have a friend who refused to do activities with the children if the activity was something that only the child would enjoy. He let the mom take the child to those activities if she thought they were important to do (often the moms just chat at those anyway). He did work, however, to figure out activities that he could enjoy too. Even a Children’s Museum can be fun for you if you want it to be. But going to a baby play zone might not be.
