For me it’s not about the obvious sexism, but the more consistent subliminal sexism of how more and more TV shoes and movies portray women as the capable and even physically stronger sex with female action stars who can best the strongest of men in hand to hand combat, with authoritarian positions being all female with men portrayed in less capable supporting positions and as the villains.

None of this is bad in isolation but as a norm it sends the misleading message men are bad and incompetent, women are good and more capable.

What are sexist moments in tv shows that piss you off?

When a man is sexualized/objectified in any way for the pleasure of women, and everyone claps, praises and cheers it. Also the female audience (if it's some talk show) wolf-whistling and hollering about it. Even more infuriating is that there is never an equivalent for a woman on the show.

Because you know that if the gender roles are reversed, it suddenly becomes "sexualization", "objectification", "misogyny", "degrading", "creepy", "pr£verted", "for chauvinist men", etc. which then immediately leads to a massive and worldwide outrage and the medium eventually gets cancelled, and the staff (men) also get fired and cancelled. Then everyone involved with the show has to issue the grovelling apology of how they're so sorry and promise to never do it again.

I get pissed off when American talk shows for women encourage women to stop birth control without telling their partner with the applause of their audiences.

Can you imagine a network talk show for men encouraging stealthing? It would (rightfully) be cancelled within a month.

Edit: Apparently after years of posting this, the Wendy Williams show recently took all their videos private as her last show aired last month. She kept going 6(?) more years after this clip. Anyone have another source for this episode?

Not a TV moment but I was watching youtube videos and some commercial came on for some new cartoon where the character was voiced by Danny Devito. And for some reason at the end Danny Devitos character says "Oh its a girl? The future really is all women!"

B99. The slow feminisation of Jake Peralta, Terry Jeffords constantly being on the receiving end of sexual harassment that male characters are called out for perpetrating towards women. The running joke of Holt's undercover straight persona being horny and objectifying. Gina Linetti's entire existence. Suffice it to say I quit watching the show

There are a lot, and many coming from the woke crap like Captain Marvel with the women are better than men, men are oppressive assholes, etc. . It is somehow worse though when such things are sprinkled into actual good entertainment than when the whole thing is garbage.

I'll just do one example as it's the first that comes to mind. There's an episode of White Collar (excellent show) where a couple ends up abducting and holding an FBI agent and his wife at gunpoint. And the end when it's resolved the man is off to spend a great deal of time in prison while the woman is let go with a slap on the wrist, even though they were both equally guilty of the crimes. What's most annoying about this is how accurate it is. While admittedly holding an FBI agent hostage might be a bit much even for a woman to get away with entirely, it's not uncommon for women to face lesser/no penalties when committing crimes with a group and the men to face the bulk of the punishment, and a lot of shows actually do this and none of the characters seem to think it's unfair.

When writers create a "strong female character" by writing them with common traits that are negative when embodied by men (i.e. aggression, standoffishness, refusal to ask for assistance, belittling of others, hurting those that cannot defend themselves, etc.) and expect us to accept this character as the hero

A current example would be Captain Marvel.

I saw The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. All in all I liked it, but there was a scene with a bar Mitzvah. They only showed the house, it was indicated that snipping was involved. You heard the baby crying, and everyone going "ooh" and then they laughed and partied.
