this is not some sort of religion my friend.

men's rights movement is simply a movement that support men's rights.

like:

joint custody (men can also have custody of their children) / changing marriage laws (so that men don't have to give half of their wealth, alimony, child support to women) / ban male circumcision / support male (financial) abortion / abolish male conscription / many other rights goals that are related to men's issues.

it's like the women's rights movement but for men since they don't talk about men's issues.

These would be MY central tenets of being an MRA:

Men are NOT oppressed. That whole idea that society is split into oppressor/oppressed along gender lines is nonsense. Actually, worse than nonsense. It turns relevant discussion of REAL issues into a "who has it worse" pissing contest that hides genuine issues that affect men, that affect women, that affect PEOPLE generally.
OTOH A large number of problems faced by men are not specific to men, but are definitely exacerbated by the unequal focus/concern on those problems. Frex, after the 2009 crash, activist groups fought to redirect grants/funding aimed at revitalising the economy because helping the construction industry helped MEN (who had lost their jobs in that industry) rather than WOMEN (who had, generally not).
OTGH There are MANY areas where men get the shitty end of the stick and society does not care. Men are:

subject to military drafts. Heck look at Ukraine.

95% of workplace deaths

80% of suicides

75% of the homeless

66% victims of violence

the majority victims of rape/sexual violence (more men are raped in US prisons than women worldwide, each year)

50% victims of unilateral DV

expected to sacrifice their lives for others, but ignored when they do

ignored when they are victims of violence, DV, rape (except when they are mocked)

ignored when they die. Remember the Boko Haram kidnappings, when those girls were taken from a school? That whole "Bring back our girls" thing? Ever wonder what happened to the boys? Probably not. No one ever does. They were murdered.

Men are oppressed too, they face discrimination and antagonism just like women do.
Men's issues are generally ignored and there needs to be more attention and acknowledgement for them.
We must advocate and do activism for men's rights and their issues.

Bear with me here.... a lil tin foil hatty, but... at the same time not

Personally I'm here as an ex liberal who thinks the patriarchy and toxic masculinity as feminists present it is a lie and leads to irrational hate/prejudice against men. I used to believe in those things but I was very naive and young.

Those things might have been more true in the 18th and 19th century western world but definitely not ubiquitous over history and geography...

and right now we have our rapacious oligarchs capitalists leaders in a desperate attempt to stage off the collapse of the western capitalist world are using every conceivable way to divide the working class moreso than ever which is leading to them resorting to include men which idt was true historically.

They are tearing everyone down, including us. Strong independent thinking men without all the burdens society weighs down on us are a very, very powerful force, some would say the most powerful force.

And it's obvious if we could we would not stand for half the shit that shit that's been happening over the decades like the hollowing out of the working class.

They are using the culture war to stop a much needed revolution. Men's rights are part of that culture war now. Like, what would 1776 look like if we had to deal with all this bullshit? There wouldn't be a revolution.

Since it's emergence in the mid-10s, the current iteration of The MRM has mostly been fighting for the "right" to drop out civilization, spend most of their waking hours glued to The X-Box and to their keyboards, living off a diet that consists almost entirely of Twinkies, griping about every last shout out to Woke Thought that was included in the latest Star Wars movie or MCU show, and encouraging the rest of the male population to do likewise. Contemporary MRAs have shown very little enthusiasm for subjects like agitating politically for shared parenting legislation, ending a drug war which disproportionately imprisons men, abolishing welfare for all but the most disabled in favor of putting the unemployed into legit work(even pre-COVID, fewer men were in the workforce than was the case at the end of The Great Depression), or/and providing more ready access to vocational training than currently exists

Hell, flagship MRA organizations like AVFM and HBR have violently opposed turning our focus towards addressing practical difficulties such as these, their rationale being "That's just encouraging men to assimilate into Norm-ie society, rather than rallying them to overthrow The Gynocentric New World Order that's been set up to oppress men". And as early as ICMI '16(where keynote speaker stefan Molyneux openly floated a proposal for The MRM to join forces with White Nationalist organizations), the leadership of The MRM has been importing conspiracy themed causes like immigration hysteria and non-troversies like GamerGate and Comicsgate into the house. To be male in The 21st Century is, in the view of most card-carrying MRAs, to be Alt Right and separatist

Within men's advocacy, there hasn't been a counter force to these self-proclaimed revolutionaries, similar to the one described in that linked article(Scroll down the portion that begins with the words "A loose collection of gay and lesbian conservatives, libertarians, and centrists watched with growing concern. We thought that the activists were dangerously misguided both about America and also gay people’s place in it.")by Rauch, and we're worse off for it. Just from reading many of the comments left here on Reddit, it's glaringly apparent that many of us have also been watching the increasing irrationality of The MRM's leadership with growing concern. Many of us recognize that the most prominent MRAs on the planet are dangerous misguided about both America and men's place in it. We've allowed ourselves to be cowed into silence though, for fear of being called "tradcons", "simps" and perhaps even "5th Column Feminists". This won't do, not if we're to really see a significant improvement in our fortunes

I generally agree with EsraYmssik, but I'll give a try also:

The MRM is fundamentally simply about opposing a laundry list of injustices, which may concern family court, presumption of innocence, gendered government support structures (particularly with regard to DV and homelessness), and circumcision -- amoung others. The list is a laundry list because there is the barest of threads connecting these issues: they are the injustices where talking about them caused some feminists to become ostracized and eventually former feminists.
The mission of the MRM is complete when there are no more anti-male laws and policies. Although harmful social mores are concerning, they buttress and cause problem laws and policies and are not themselves the core issue.
Typically, though not necessarily, the background on which issues are addressed is one that is unapologetically egalitarian, opposes feminism for its blatant sexism, eschews an oppressor-oppressed model of the world, and recognizes the existence of cooperatively constructed gender roles (including Male Disposability) rather than considering gender roles to be a mere sort of power struggle.
