My 16 years anniversary was a few weeks ago, and my wife sent me a text the other day "I finally figured out what to get you for our anniversary, I hope it makes you happy".

Got served divorce papers the next day.

It wasn't really a surprise, but still a shitty way to do it. Things had been circling the drain for about five years, and really I should have jumped ship then, but I had this really stupid notion that I had some sort of bragging rights that I hadn't been divorced while everyone else in my family had. I finally let that go last year and had started looking at my options, but she pissed me off over blowing money, in the process ruining chances of our house being refinanced, so I stopped making the effort to make sure our paths crossed and conversation happened.
