Men aren’t going to be there for women in traditional ways and most feminists I know are losing their $hit over it.

She had one of the most successful careers in an era where solo female singers fare better than solo male singers but still a victim.

“I have spent decades in an industry that is rife with an overarching anti-woman sentiment and have tolerated a lot of condescension and disrespectfulness, reduction, dismissiveness, contract-breaching, unsupportiveness, exploitation and psychological violence (and more) throughout my career,”

The real psychological violence is a culture that tells men they are bad wrong evil …. We’ll pick the adjectives

She had one of the most successful careers

She did?

She had one hit album. Twenty-seven years ago. And before that album she tried to make a go of it singing packaged candy fluff in Quebec. Her biggest hit was a scatological diatribe at a guy who finally decided to grow up, dump her and settle down as a good husband with a mature, adult woman. Which is what women want. She's never been anything more than a hood ornament for the misandry industry.

[–]IronJohnMRA 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She wrote none of the songs herself.

Really? I had no idea. Who wrote them?

[–]coffeeinvenice 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What?

[–]anothergoodbook[🍰] 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unfortunately having watched her documentary on HBO - she had a crappy experience with men. I’m not justifying her position. I can imagine that if being in this bubble that just seems to be teeming with predators (of any sex) might skew someone’s worldview. I don’t think it is right, but it’s the only explanation I can come up with that is even slightly rational.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

she had a crappy experience with men.

Possibly the same way that Theunis Botha had a crappy experience with elephants.

[–]DJRhymeLight1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

A woman said her experience was bad. Better tell her how she’s wrong without knowing any of the details and how men suffer more.

[–]Input_output_error 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Maybe, just maybe, she had the average experience anyone in that position goes through!? Do you really believe that all these things don't happen to male artists?

The industry is fucked up, that is nothing new, it has nothing to do with her being a woman. There are countless male artists that got fucked over badly because some other mother fucker saw a chance to do so. They didn't get fucked over because they're males, they got fucked over because someone else saw a chance to do so. Why would it be any different with women in the business?

[–]mimiczx 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't feed the troll. You're replying to a new account just made today. Down vote harvest.

[–]DJRhymeLight1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I don’t know. I’m not in the industry. But if your reaction to every woman struggling is ‘ nuh uh males have it worse’ you’re just trying to be oppressed. But you aren’t.

[–]FatJesus15 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do you not see the ignorance in that comment? You were literally just giving this individual grief because they made assumptions about a situation you claim they didn't understand..... Yet you do the same thing? Who are you to tell anybody if they are oppressed or not? If you want to make a point that something isn't fair or logical, try not making the same point you're attempting to refut. Mighty fine high horse you sit on there....

[–]DesertVeteran_PA-C 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I remember her songs, and remember thinking “THANK GOD I NEVER DATED THAT TRAIN WRECK”

They went out of their way to induct Dolly Parton, who is a wonderful person that breaths positivity into the world instead of angst and vitriol.

[–]SutoraikaXnoStrykerX 17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't doubt she faced actual sexism because the music industry was utter bullshit for EVERYONE back in before the internet destroyed it and poptimism ruined the ashes. It's known that genuine predators thrived in music because that's where all the freaks and weirdos congregated. And yeah, it was a boy's club, but what wasn't back then?

But this feels entitled. "I suffered, so I deserve this"

[–]Nobleone11 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And yeah, it was a boy's club

No.

Not every male singer achieved the level of success granted to your Bruce Springsteens, Bob Dylons, Neil Youngs, and other timeless, popular male singers.

It's a cutthroat industry that chews up and spits out people. To be a success, you need to have ruthlessness, gumption and the ability to game the system itself because it's not about talent.

$50 says the reason was last minute negotiatons that didn't go her way, so she pulled out and is trying to pitch it as a virtue

[–]UnmutualOne 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meh. She is ridiculously overrated.

[–]Saysonz 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean it's impossible to know exactly what she has or hasn't faced, concluding either without any evidence would be silly.

For all we know she may have had some terrible experiences, Hollywood does seem to be a place where it is potentially easier to get famous as a women but you gotta deal with a lot of crap men to get there.

[–]OctaviaPinfold 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The thing about Hollywood is that there they treat everybody who isn't famous like shit, using and abusing people aren't restricted to women, not even sexual abuse. Do women have it worse? Maybe in some aspects, but is it an anti-women sentiment shared by most if not all men instead of just elitist assholery coming from many on top, men and women? Nope.

[–]almostadaddy 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure she endured a lot of abuse as the entertainment industry is run by (and for) a cabal of sick and evil people.

But these evil folks don't play favorites based upon sex. They'll exploit men just as readily.

[–]wrekd 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star and Liz Phair were way better 90s female artists.

[–]DJRhymeLight1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Good for her. She shouldn’t have to put up with things like that.

[–]treeerty 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Was it worth the time to make a new account, one day old and then come in here post a bunch of stupid comments and then piss off?

[–]DJRhymeLight1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Is saying a woman shouldn’t put up with being belittled really a stupid comment?

[–]treeerty 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nope, just the fact you’ve made a new account to antagonise that’s stupid get your defective brain checked out buddy before it deteriorates further

[–]FatJesus15 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You should stop being a racist, a bigot and a Nazi sympathizer.

Do you see how it feels to put words in somebodies mouth? I doubt you will understand the point I'm trying to make, but let me spell it out for you. Try arguing the point a person makes, not the point you think they wanted to make or any other such nonsense.

Why do you trolls always do this? Logical fallacies galore

[–]Nobleone11 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Remember her hit song "You Oughta Know"?

Knowing her overall attitude now, exasperated by this action, I think her boyfriend at the time dodged a bullet when they broke up.
