You know, if mass shootings were a majorly female-perpetrated form of violence, I think we, as a society, would (correctly) identify it as a mental health crisis, and seek ways to solve said crisis by addressing issues specifically relating to women that could cause said mental health crisis, and thus violence.

But as it's a man-perpetrated form of violence, I guess it's just part of the natural make-up of our gender...

Australia had similar issue, they resolved it by mass confiscating weapons and strict gun control. No more mass shootings ever since. But it's taboo in US due to historic importance of a right to bear arms.

It is true that the vast majority of mass killings are done by men. Still, what percentage of men is that? It’s an incredibly minuscule fraction. It’s not a male issue at all. I’ve heard of at least a dozen instances of women killing pregnant women, cutting them open and stealing their babies. I’ve never heard of a man doing that. Is that a woman issue? No. Women are not collectively responsible for that.

Yes, it is a male problem. But she’s completely missed the cause. The average shooter is a low status, socially ostracised, emotionally isolated man who decides on violence as a mean of asserting his power.

You never see the popular guy, the handsome guy go on a shooting spree.

No, these men who kill indiscriminately often have a sense the world doesn’t care about them, that they’ve been labeled worthless or seen as pathetic in the eyes of their peers. The feel powerless in their own life and in the world.

Social status is critical to physical and mental health, when these men are essentially rejected by society, that loss of esteem is deeply distressing - it causes a psychological wound that can hurt so much that men will convince themselves of anything to try to stop the pain of it.

Most men simply cope as best they can. A very small number of men respond with violence. And even smaller number of men decide to kill.

If we want to stop mass shootings, we need to look at the lives of the shooters and consider the role of shame and status in the factors leading to their abhorrent and shocking decisions.

Now if only we didn't have a stigma on men's mental health, and underfund men's health unlike women's mental health. If only we talked about mental health on men's day and not "It's men's day, here's how women are most affected". if only we didn't treat men as disposable and valueless. If only we didn't shame and guilt men for all of world's problems. If only we didn't have blatantly biased headlines such as "300 dead in Iran protests, 60 were women" or "1 in 4 homeless people are women", oh or "How the war in Ukraine disproportionately affects women the most". If only masculinity was praised and not shunned. If only men had reproductive Rights. If only father's had equal parental rights. If only men were encouraged to seek higher education as women. If only abuse and homeless shelters were equally favourable and non biased. If only Google payed their male employees as much as female employees, and then didn't try and boycott male employees. If only.

I can keep writing more, the list will never end, but I believe I've provided enough examples.

It appears to be a uniquely female issue to look at anything related to being male and being part of this society as having absolutely nothing to do with the opposite sex. It couldn’t possibly be that a mother put pressure on her son and that lead to a mass shooting. It couldn’t be that a young father was working as hard as he could to pay for his child, while his “baby-momma” left him for another man, or any other possible issue could arise that isn’t JUST a male issue. It has to be 100% one sex’s problem. Gee, as usual it seems like what is a female problem is EVERYONE’S problem, but what is a male problem is ONLY men’s issue and everything is blamed on them. No one could POSSIBLY influence that situation (according to them), it has to be ALL because of being male.

Using this same exact logic, I guess anything to do with having a baby or taking care of one could be said to be entirely a female problem, yes? I mean, obviously I don’t think like that, but if you’re going to minimize every issue to the point that you just blame one sex for the immediate problem, then babies are a female problem…This is why this logic doesn’t work. I'm curious about this post & the comments as someone who isn't a member of this sub. Presumably this subreddit's members want more focus on male issues in the face of society's focus on feminism, particularly male mental health. Is it not important then that a pattern of male anger and violence is recognized so discussions can be had about how male mental health is often forsaken by society, leading to these excessive acts of violence? Or is this sub dedicated solely to criticizing feminism without presenting alternative thought? I'm genuinely wondering.
