My partner and I go for weekly salsa then bachata after! It’s a great space to express yourself and because the dance is so close contact like in bachata, really good starting point if you’re interested in a person.

If I were you, I’d actually make it a point to go to the Latin parties just to put myself in a less ‘formal’ class setting so make it easy to strike up a conversation. Eg- “Hey, I saw you in x class the other day. How did you find it?” “I really struggle with that move. Can you show it to me?” “I’d love to go to that class/ party. Maybe we can go together/(or if you’re not brave enough)maybe I’ll meet you there?” “Oh you do bachata? I’d love to learn it! Do you think it’ll be hard to pick up?”

Since he’s already asked you things like if you do other dancing, you can try prodding if he has other interests for any common ground. Maybe could try that together then coffee after? wink wink

Usually if you drop enough hints- body language, verbally, he’d pick up on it. I find that with good men, they’d subtly mention their other halves by this point so it’s not awkward for you.

You know, as a guy, there’s certain tale tale signs a woman gives off that’s just undeniable sometimes. The obvious ones being continual eye contact from across the room or close quarters multiple times. Usually smiling after breaking eye contact, her looking away once the guy looks at her . Also positioning herself in a guys proximity especially coming extremely close to where his located. If that still doesn’t signal the go ahead for him to purse then you can reach out and just ask a question about something you need help with. Then use that opening to escalate the conversation on your side to get you and him chatting beyond the question. (Guys can do this too btw….)

Me personally if a woman comes up to me that would mean I didn’t have the balls to go to her first after her signalling (which doesn’t happen) or she is extremely proactive and doesn’t mind initiating the interaction, very few women do this but it’s dependent on the environment, say the groceries, random shop, gym for ex.

Usually with these things you can kind of read the energy of the other person and adjust to the necessary mode of action. Good luck.

Full text: Hi RPW. I would really appreciate some advice. Once a week I attend a salsa class. There are 2 classes at the same time in the venue and this man goes to either mine or the other which is a beginner class where he helps the new followers. After this class there is also a latin night at another venue which he goes to.

I am crushing on him. I didn't have a crush in a really long time. He is really good looking and there are always women near him. He is so polite and friendly too. If he is ever in my class or if we do rueda( dancing in a circle with everyone) at the end of the class he will sometimes try to make small talk inbetween dancing and has asked me if I do any other type of dance, if I'm going to the latin party after etc(although I'm aware he probably does this with others too).

I really like him but don't want to seem desperate or cringy to him. I want to do things in a feminine way. I’m sure lots of women like him. I really don’t know how I can approach this. After the class there is abit of social dancing which he always does before the next class starts. I just don’t know how to start speaking and escalating things. He mostly has people around him before class. I don’t even know if he has a girlfriend. There is a salsa group chat on WhatsApp and I saw him on there but think it would be abit weird to text him. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Why would it be weird? You can always ask him if he is single, and then add either before or after that you are “single and looking.“ If he’s into you, he will ask you out. But if he’s not, it’s not that big a deal because phrase that way it might be that you are looking to put yourself out there, so for example, if he had any single male friends, he might put you in touch or introduce you, something like that.

Don’t worry about rejection and certainly don’t take it personally; 99.9% of guys are going to try to treat you kindly even if they are not interested, because rejection is something that man have to deal with regularly.
