We are literally fighting for our right to be victims.

One of the fundamental human rights is that everyone should receive equal protection of the law. In practice, this ought to mean that any situation in which a female would receive legal status as a victim, a male in the same situation should also be a victim. Because if you do not have equal access to potential victimhood, then the law itself does not protect you.

But modern society fails this simple test in some very stark ways.

Examples:

If your genitals are mutilated by a doctor shortly after birth and you are female, you qualify as a victim. Exact same situation but you have a penis and it is no longer considered a crime or even noteworthy. Your equal opportunity for victimhood is denied.
If police are called to a domestic dispute, and it is not clear what happened, the man is arrested and the woman gets to be a victim.
If someone uses their hand to touch your genitals without your consent, and you are female, you qualify as a rape or sexual assault victim. Even slight penetration of a vagina with ANY objects counts as sex for the purposes of establishing a sex crime has occurred. If you are male, someone touching your penis does not constitute sexual penetration unless they do so with their vagina, anus, or mouth and therefore you do not qualify as a victim even though the *exact* same situation would have been a crime if your genitals were shaped differently.

I'm going to stop there, but I'm sure I could make a much longer list if I were to spend more time thinking about it.

The term "victimhood mentality" has been coined to refer to people who wish to elevate little foibles into grand problems. Or to people who blame others for their failures.

But the victimhood that is denied some men simply because they have a penis is not in regard to silly, inconsequential things. It is in regard to what should be serious criminal matters with lifelong consequences. This isn't "victimhood mentality" this is literal denial of victimhood rights.

We need to DEMAND equal protection of the law. It is our right. And this means DEMANDING recognition of victimhood.

I have mixed feelings about that. It’s one thing to claim oppression as an excuse to do nothing and another thing to want to end actual discrimination, but that line can get muddy.

I’m all for trying to end the many forms of discrimination men face, but I agree with you we still have choices and still have power over our own destiny and sometimes some men adopt the same victim mentality that feminists do and that’s not helpful.

Marriage, divorce and family law may be biased for example and it’s with fighting to make it less biased, but in the meantime, men do have choices. Men can be careful not to get a woman pregnant, men can choose to not marry, etc.

Fight to end discrimination against men, but don’t adopt a victim mentality that holds you back from your potential. Look at reality and make wise choices given that reality. That’s my thought anyways.
