Before you lash on me, let me tell you my point of view first.
I came from a very traditional family/society with clear gender roles, where men provide and women tend to the family. My family was doing well and both of my parents had a lot of money, until one day both of them lost their jobs.
My dad was affected a lot more not only because he was a male, but because my mothers family was rich and she had some real estate thing that she inherited from them so she viewed herself as superior, but because she had a chronic disease, she couldn't work anymore. So we were only getting by.
My dad eventually after like 10 years of scraping by finally had a decent steady job to support himself and us but he and my mother were resentful to each other because of this.
Needless to say the idea that a man provides (as Gus said it from BB) stuck in my head and became my mine too, I got into a job I hate just so I get a lot of money, at the same time I had to quit my job and move/flee my country and go to a different country.
And for like 3 years I was living on my savings/support from the government and others and that took a massive toll on my self esteem, I hated myself so much because I was taking money to support myself and felt worthless.
And now after almost a yearof having a high paying job, I kinda got back to thinking the same way.
A humans worth is how much he provides/achievement wether he achieve financial success or academic success, humans need to give more than they take for them to be 'worthful'
Now I know this is a very toxic world view, and that's why I am sharing it with you guys, I want you to prove me wrong, I want to know how/where do I draw myself sense of worth from.
I know this is a common way of thinking and I want to see the other side.
