I’ve had to pay for two attorneys for the first consult. Found one that gave a free consult and was the one I went with because he knew his stuff.

The ones I had to pay for were part of law firms so not sure if that has something to do with it but seems like these days more attorneys are asking for money for the first consult. One attorney I reached out to charged 600/hr but initial consult fee was like 300 so don’t forget to ask for their hourly rate when looking for a lawyer.

Yes. People want to be paid for their time. My attorney credited me the consultation amount when I paid him a retainer.

Don’t sweat the first few hundred. It’s gonna cost 100k ++ if contested with kids and assets.

I did my initial consultation for $100 / one hour. Second and subsequent were at the “normal” hourly rate of $200/hr. We’ll worth every penny.
