In the last century average male height has gone up significantly in Western countries and this is almost certainly due to sexual selection (no, it's not diet). So yes, I think that if women's mate choices were unrestrained throughout history, men today would exhibit more sexual dimorphism and in a sense be more attractive.
I also think men would have been much less intelligent, more impulsive, and anti-social (in the psychopatic sense, not in the socially retarded sense).

not an incel, but it's a nonsense question. most men are unattractive by definition of female selectivity. men today are taller than centuries ago, does that make swoon most women? no, only the taller ones do. it's a race, there's always a podium, no matter how fast everyone runs

Almost certainly.

Polyamorous societies where a small demographic of alpha males are in a relationship with the majority of women is what humans naturally engaged in. But polyamorous cultures tend to be very unproductive and hyperviolent. So to curtail this, religious institutions like Roman Catholicism and Christianity started strictly prohibiting adultery and began both legally and socially enforcing the concept of monogamy. To give lower status men an opportunity to reproduce and a "stake" in society ie: a wife and children.

Heck, if you want to see the consequences of leaving polyamory unchecked you don't even need to read a history book. 8 of the 10 most violent and unstable countries on Earth today are openly polygamous.

no i think that even if every woman today got inseminated and exclusively from a top 0.01% 6'6.66" 6-pack 6-figure +6stdev IQ man, their daughters would find most of one another's sons unattractive. you have to understand that if most men are unattractive because of their parents', so must women be. if you think most men's genes shouldn't have made it further than a kleenex, congrats: neither did yours as a woman, because your mom had a father and so do you.

I don't know if men are nessasarily unnatractive it's just that women are overly made up and as men we shouldn't find other men attractive.

No. For the simple reason that monogamy has never been consistently enforced (or even mandated), in Europe at least. It was often a social ideal, obeyed mainly in the breach, with vast variation between times and places.

To the extent that it was enforced, its main results were the creation of many unhappy lifelong relationships, and a large number of men supporting offspring they were genetically unrelated to.

Yes and no? Attraction is an evolutionary adaptation that's meant to help select the best genes for reproduction. Evolution works based on relative concepts like tallER, fastER,biggER,smartER etc... It doesn't have some specific idea in mind that men should specifically be 6'4, run a 12 second 100m, weigh 250 and have an IQ of 132.

So attractiveness, as an evolutionary adapdation does the same thing...it just looks at what is available and selects a certain percentage of it.

The reason why enforced monogamy might have something to do with most men being perceived as unattractive is that the less you have to worry about survival the more picky you can afford to be and monogamy, regardless of if it's enforced or not does a good job of improving the overall quality of life of people.

I tend to think that the illusion that under monogamy, the most attractive weren’t the ones passing their genes is a lie.

The patriarchy only sold itself on the modern era, which was the time by which is was starting to disintegrate since patriarchy is incompatible with liberal democracy.

Before if you were good looking and weren’t part of the royals then you’d be either killed or worked to ugliness and death anyway.

I think there are traces of such social norms in artistic representation. The ideal patriarch wasn’t a man that could live with other men and be desired by any women they wanted, they were a man who killed men who got in his way and took any woman they wanted even by force if necessary.

Unattractive compared to what? Each other? Men haven't gotten worse, attractiveness-wise. It's always been 80-20. In the past the 80% betabuxed their way into sex and marriage, but those relationships went super sour. Unattractive men who aren't being picked by women today got picked by women in the days of yesteryear - and they suffered horrors like alimony, cuckolding/paternity fraud, dead bedrooms, and the like.

In many ways unattractive men of the past suffered far worse than "forever alone" men of today.
