I think you've forgotten about "milfs" sleeping with young men and not being called "old perverts". I lived with a women 10 years my senior for years none made any qualms about it. I don't see the purpose of question. In actuality older men are quite unwanted by younger women. edit: Hell my brother married a woman as old as our mom 20 years his senior.

I've dated women 1-2 years older before I could drive and it was fine. It was different in the sense that her group of friends was different from mine when I was with the 2 years older girl but, I don't think the "traditional roles" were really thought of. We liked each other, all that mattered.

Well, that's changing a lot. While you don't see many of the 80 year old millionaire and hot 30 year old wife age gaps, you are starting to see cougars pick up on younger men.

I think there's a part to it driven by how men and women typically look at relationships both on a societal level and a primal behavioral level. Guys are typically driven to procreate with the most attractive mate and a much older woman can't do that. While at the same time an older man can still produce sperm and so it's possible to still procreate with younger women. Women are typically driven more to secure a mate with the most resources. That leads them to typically seek out somewhat older men as people are more successful as they progress in they're careers typically. I don't mean this in a way to denigrate women at all but biologically women past menopause are the most hindered on a primal behavioral level.

Now on a societal level we tend to put a high value on men being highly successful and young women's beauty, this creates a bit of a perfect storm for the age difference being more readily available one way versus the other. Younger men usually don't have the success their older counterparts do so there not as desirable and women past their prime aren't valued as highly.

The funniest part about this whole thing is the thought of an old man in a wheelchair being able to dominate a young, fit girl all because of age; as is, older men are stronger. That must make senior citizens the strongest out of all of us, no?

And it turns out that the best woman I've ever dated happen to me older than me by two years and she was as skinny as a twig. She was pretty much on the fragile side (by her looks) but she still to this day is the only woman I ever loved. All the other girls, wish I could forget them all.

(After typing out this post I notice that I refer to OP's friend as a girl a few times, to avoid redoing basically entire post going to not change it, I recognize there's no proof that said friend is female however reading what is written it seems to me very much like the friend is female how they seem to be putting themselves in the female position and all)

To be fair, while these ideals are outdated and I'm sure most of us will probably agree are stupid, in regards to her own dating life, if she wants to have these beliefs, meh, to each their own (it doesn't seem malicious in of itself to be held as a belief so long as she doesn't use it as reason to make fun of different relationships or younger guys whom may approach her, and I mean make fun of them to their face, to her friends whatevs, if she wants to be a jerk like that nothing anyone else can do about it).

Obviously if you just read her response it will seem as if she believes that everyone should be held to this standard but consider if you would that OP posed the question to them why is it wrong, without further context we have no way of knowing if she is say making fun of OP for dating an older woman, made fun of a relationship that goes 'against' her beliefs of a relationship, or anything like that, all that we know OP encountered the idea that some people are against 'non-traditional' relationships, OP's friend is a believer of 'traditional' relationships, whether she keeps them to herself or not has not been shown. As long as these beliefs do not cause harm.... well no harm no foul, and this is the price of freedom, people disagreeing with you and believing in either stupid, outdated, or whatever beliefs.
