I barely have enough money to pay for my own food. The only time I ever pay for a date is if I'm cooking, cause then it's a lot cheaper. Being a college student living off $100 a week and loans definitely changes your perspective on dating. If a girl wants to see me, she's gonna get a cheap bottle of wine and whatever i can cook for $10 or less. It's the effort that matters not the money.

Only 18% of women legitimately said they were happy to pay equally
39% of women claim they are fine paying, but are lying.
44% of women say they don't like it when they think a man expects them to pay

84% of men believed that after dating for a while men still paid for most expenses. Only 54% of women thought the same.

So there's a large disparity in terms of how much men and women believe women pay for things equally, so the 18% figure is likely much much lower.

A woman could not be more transparent with her intentions than this. If a man wants the privilege of her company, and the possibility of sex, then he has to pay. She doesn't want any of that as much as he does. What she brings to the relationship has more worth than what he brings.

I find the paying for dates thing very insulting. Either she's there because she wants to be or she's basically a prostitute. I have no interest in paying for company or sex, which leaves one option. Besides, it's unlikely that she earns more than me, sharing my life is a financially beneficial move anyway. She can pay for her own food, and I will decide if she's worth being around.

Let's not pretend that men wouldn't do the same thing if they had the option; the key is to bring up this point in a gender neutral way. Women are not "the problem", human bias is the problem, and reducing or eliminating it is the goal.

If a man is too chintzy to pay for a date he sets up, then call her up and tell her you can't make it. Or is that too much of a bother in the gender wedge department to even do that much!

In this time of equaity, probably a lot. But they're not reported on, jkpolk. Complaining men about paying for dates are are trying to blame women for their choice to ask her out.

My rule of thumb is as follows. It's in the language. If I ask someone if I can "Take them out", then I feel responsible to pay. If I ask if they'd like to meet up for ___ somewhere", then I'm expecting them to pay their share.

Likewise if someone were to ask if they could "take me somewhere" or "Treat me" for coffee, food, drinks, etc... I assume they mean to pay. Otherwise I assume it's going to be dutch.
