That video is a bit rambly/ranty.

Anyway, there IS rape culture in the USA. The term was originally used to describe the strange things that happen in prison, and it's still an accurate descriptor there. In prison it's totally acceptable for someone to violently rape someone else, to say they did so publicly, and they are still welcomed into that society. So there is a culture there that expressly condones rape. Furthermore, a large part of society at large is mostly OK with this rape. If there's someone going to jail we don't like "I can't wait for Bubba to get a hold of him in the cell" etc etc, jokes where the punchline is "ha ha raped in prison" are generally socially acceptable.

The bad elements of "Frat" culture are also rape culture. Sure 99% of those guys would stop someone from having sex with a woman screaming "no", but there are also groups of dudes that don't really see anything wrong with getting someone totally shitfaced and having sex with them when they don't know where they are. That's a rape culture.

Now, you could probably go beyond that, but I think those are baselines that reasonable people should agree with. Now, rape culture is an idea that can also be taken off into left field, but as a baseline "rape culture doesn't exist" is as silly as "everything is rape culture".

I must be unreasonable.. I don't agree with anything you said wrt "rape culture" a legitimate culture. The only thing that is real about it is that it's a label created by feminist theory in the last few years they are trying to apply to society. The label originates in a disgusting prison environment where none have apathy for the victims which are generally all male. I agree with the amazing atheist. There is no rape culture to speak of.. most certainly is not a wide spread phenomena deserving of a macro label such as "culture". The term "rape culture" is a ridiculous label created by fringe feminism that is being brought out of the insane depths of feminist ideological theory and it's basically not found anywhere else. Feminism is trying to create it via labeling. edit: Show me a human culture that holds rape in such high esteem that it is not illegal to perpetuate.. show me the culture were rape goes on unpunished, held in extremely high regard, encouraged.. Hint: There aren't any cultures in all humanity, so stop abusing the word "culture". Thanks in advance.

The sociological definition of normalization is fixed.

Feminists sometimes differ in exactly how much conscious acceptance there is of rape in society and to what degree. That is the only difference.

Your own feminist you quoted says... "the term "normalization" refers to a process through which ideas come to seem as "normal" and become a natural part of everyday life"... how you think this can possibly be defended when it comes to rape I don't know. Rape is not and has never been "seen as "normal" and a natural part of everyday life", except perhaps in prison, which I believe the term was originally used to describe.

I do have the agency to stop talking, just as you have the agency to respect the fact that I don't want to keep arguing with you about the same thing and rape prevention tips.

I have the choice to stop talking, but since this is a public board, I like to show dissent to things I dont agree with and I dont much care how you feel about it.

As far as I know there is a way to block people which means you wont see their replies. Feel free to find out how to do that.

When people say that it makes sense to dress every day in a certain way because of rapists, then rape qualifies as having been normalized in the culture, in the sociological sense.

As I told you the last time, that is actually valid advice (along with others) so long as the risk of rape really is as bad as feminists claim. The point under debate is: IS the risk to women really as bad as feminists claim? You cant claim rape is seen as normal and natural part of every day life. The second point under debate is: Why do feminists reject the notion of women taking personality responsibility towards their safety? And here we are again at the mens rights issue with feminists "rape culture" that you say we dont understand.

Giving women advice like this is not evidence of normalisation of "rape", it is at worst, bad/unhelpful crime prevention advice.

Well sorry you are unable to totally block me. However you're still free to ignore me. Assuming I really am lacking respect, you have your own agency to just - stop - talking.

Go somewhere like askfeminists, find one of the ones that actually knows what its about (not Rebecca watson or someone from againstmensrights), take it up with them.

Well according to your own sources that presumably are from those proper feminists, we are all in full agreement about what feminists think rape culture is. I still dont see any real difference as to what MRAs typically argue against, and the counter arguments against it remain the same. All you do is just keep saying we dont understand, but when asked for sources all you've done is provide examples that say what we say it is. --shrugs--

EDIT: You're free to provide me a definition of rape culture of your choosing and then demonstrate with evidence that it does indeed exist. I won't use any other definition from anyone else other than your own.

Normalization - Im going look left and right when I cross the road, traffic is normal so looking left and right is normal. Were I brought up in the jungle where there is no traffic, I would not be doing that.

You can't just lock someone in their house to prevent them from being mugged, either. Or stabbed. Or assaulted. They're still going to happen, I get it. But why aren't we standing around with 100 dollar bills taped to our naked bodies saying "Don't teach me to protect myself, teach burglars not to burgle!"?

Because it wouldn't work. And we know it wouldn't work. So then why is it different with rape? We know it's a heinous crime. Then why the fuck are we against teaching people how to defend themselves? Maybe teaching them some personal responsibility regarding alcohol?

It would be fantastic if we lived in a world where criminals didn't do criminal things. But we don't. Telling criminals not to commit crimes will do jack shit if they really want to do it. That's why we have locks. That's why people take self-defense classes. And that's why people should be responsible about their alcohol intake.
