Agreed. This isn't the first time the wrong woman has been doxxed. This doxxing of "offending" women is not worth it, not to mention it's legally not smart.

This is one reason why so many Internet Name & Shame Campaigns are terrible, and the entire concept should be tossed out the window, with the namers and shamers told in no uncertain terms to stop their bullshit.

And this extends past Men's Rights. Here it is this OU chick, and before AVFM has made this error.

But right now at FreeThoughtBlogs Stephanize Zvan is regretting her mistaken outing of a person she claimed was a female abuser. And PZ Myers is dealing with lawyers from his name and shame campaign of several atheists he dislikes when he accused them of sexual harassment and maybe worse. And we've seen Adria Richards pull this stunt. And the assholes at iHollaback run this risk everyday.

Internet Naming and Shaming is an exploit and abuse of the Internet. It is almost always disproportionate, abusive and just appeals to our prurient nature.

This is not to say attention cannot be raised to issues or even to recent incidents. But there is usually very little need to bypass the legal system and use your blog to publicly shame people.

Stephanie Zvan has had to apologize, but her apology was "I published crap, sorry I published crap" but even in her apology she hasn't acknowledged the harm she did to all of the parties involved as well as their families.

I'm not sure why you're looking here for an apology. This sub has a very strict policy about doxxing and I am hesitant to believe that any of the harassment this young woman received was from this sub.

Maybe I just didn't see it, but was there anyone on here calling for MRAs to harass this woman? Was her information distributed here (besides what was included in the articles circulated)? Did people here post her name, social media information, or anything of that nature?

Unless there was something I didn't see then I'm not sure what you're looking for. It's awful that those pictures and videos were circulated in reference to the story and that she was wrongly identified, but unless there was some involvement of Men's Rights in the misidentification/doxxing of this woman then we're not to blame.

I think the article is rather badly written. It would have been better written as follows.

A man allegedly sexually assaulted a female OU student in public on Court Street near Chase Bank between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Oct. 12. The sexual contact was caught on video by passersby, some of whom also snapped photos and posted images on numerous social media outlets of the man allegedly performing oral sex on her. She reported the incident the following Monday. Investigators have located and interviewed both her and the man involved. No charges have been filed in the case.

Another female OU student was misidentified as the woman in the videos and/or photographs. Links to her social media contacts were distributed throughout some websites and blogs. She received harassing correspondence and filed a complaint with the police over telecommunicatinos harassment.

Apparently viral images of public sex in Athens Ohio are unrelated to reported rape.

On the contrary, on my reading the article you cite supports the opposite conclusion: the woman in the images did indeed report the incident as rape.

Take a close look at the following passage:

Investigators are looking into a claim by another Ohio University female student that a man allegedly sexually assaulted her in public on Court Street near Chase Bank between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Oct. 12. The woman reported the incident the following Monday and since then, investigators have located and interviewed both the man and woman involved.

No charges have been filed in the case.

From this it is clear that the woman referred to in the phrase "the woman reported the incident" is also the "Ohio University female student" who "a man allegedly sexually assaulted" and that this sexual assault was the "sexual contact..caught on video by passersby".

I conclude that the woman in the video did report the incident as rape.

There are two women referred to in the article you cite. They are both OU students.

The first is described as the "victim in the investigations" and "the telecommunications harassment complainant".

The second is described as "the victim of a highly-publicized alleged sexual assault" and "the woman in the videos and/or photographs".

To all those who said the girl in the video was raped, when now it comes to light that she never said such a thing, now what do they have to say for themselves?

Their only retort was to say that they thought it was rape merely because they thought she made the accusation. Thus, validating all of the MRMs complaints that rape is tied to a woman's accusation, more than it is the objective facts available.

While I feel sorry that this women was inadvertently been thrown into the limelight due to the greater debate concerning rape allegations, she was getting her pussy eaten out in public with a loads of onlookers encouraging her and filming the incident. Not to say she had it coming, but act like a slut, get treated like a slut.

EDIT: This comment is in error. I misread the thrust of the article and responded accordingly.
