This is just more of the same old "feminism is theoretically against gender roles, and is therefore in favour of mens' rights" schtick.

That's not what feminism or feminists do in practice, and most people can see through the bs.

Overall good conversation, good points all around. Still don't have a definitive answer on what "The Patriarchy^{TM^"} is. I'm sure we'll get there one day.

Patriarchy is the belief that a division of labour between genders established sometime in the pre-history of humanity was unjust for women and that the structure of modern civilization not only unfolded in a way consistent with that original sin, but is fundamentally skewed against women as a consequence.

I'm subscribed to /r/changemyview, and have participated in discussion there in the past, though not frequently. The sub encourages debate and I don't think the mods there would consider comments there from MRAs "brigading," but because of admin threats against this sub, I'm afraid any comment I leave in that thread will be used against /r/mensrights by reddit feminists. Even if it's not, some of the links I'd use as citations to show areas of discrimination which have been maintained because of feminist advocacy and lobbying would cause my comment to be censored, as the admins have blocked a prominent men's advocacy site in its entirety over ideological disagreement, citing accused reddit rule violations against a couple of areas on the site which aren't related to reddit at all.

That circumstance is characteristic of feminism, and it's an encapsulated example of why men's human rights issues cannot be blamed on "patriarchy" or solved by feminist advocacy.

I've commented previously on feminism's role in causing or perpetuating issues of discrimination against and oppression of men.
