Pamela Downe, assistant professor with the gender studies department at the University of Saskatchewan, says it’s more important to focus on all aspects of violence against all people – women, men, girls and boys, et al.

“I don’t think that the poster campaigns, from the samples that I have seen, are advancing that cause in any particular way,” said Downe. “Of course we need to be attending to the men who are victims of violence. I don’t know anyone who says we shouldn’t be. I just think that we need to do that in a constructive way.”

Professor Downe is right that all victims need to be meaningfully addressed. Good for her!

The problem is that in the current system, male victims and female perpetrators are marginalized.

The point of the poster campaign is to focus on a currently-marginalized sector of the problem.

If most sexual assault campaigns were adequately addressing the entire problem (as Downe wishes they were), then the "Don't Be That Girl" campaign would not be necessary.

Also, I fail to see how "false rape accusations are bad" posters are "anti-feminist." False rape accusations encourage and perpeutate a climate of skepticism towards rape claims generally... a climate of (unnecessary-for-legal-purposes) skepticism towards rape claims is rape culture. Any opponent of rape culture should thus oppose false rape claims because false rape claims generate and sustain rape culture (opposing genuine rape culture is also a men's rights issue, but the term is associated with feminism).

Any reasonable feminist opposes false rape accusations. Too bad that in today's world, reasonable feminists are an endangered species.

Once again the feminist twist the issue at hand. Additionally, how were the don't be that guy posters focusing on all violence and genders, yet don't be that girl was an attack on feminism? It's bullshit all the way down.

Then why are the posters only concentrating on males being the ones doing the bad things? Why are we genuinely surprised when we see a gender neutral advertisement?

You mean by completely ignoring it like you have been? The posters used are almost the same thing but reversed and we have people throwing hissy fits and tearing them down. Or is this another case of oh we might help you when it is convenient for us until then do as we say.

WTF is going on in Canada, seriously? I know the shooting in '89 has fueled resentment for 20+ years but honestly? It's quite ridiculous in the States but Canada seems to be on a whole other level. How the hell did they get such an openly extremist foothold up there?

We should focus more on Men's Rights and less on feminism. Even if you are ardently anti feminist you must see that right now we need support as they are Goliath and we are David. And being too antifeminist too early will hurt that cause.
