Is this really going to happen? If so, the boys will just have to protest by quitting the organization and stop the cash flow. Some things just cannot be coed!!

I'm an Eagle Scout and I've been involved with the Boy Scouts of America since I was a Tiger. I find the BSA becoming Co-Ed very unlikely.

The BSA already has programs for girls once they reach a certain age. There is Venturing, which focuses on more extreme outdoor activities, and Sea Scouts, which focuses on nautical activities. Both of these are co-ed.

The reason they do this is because of developmental differences in boys and girls. Before age 14, which is when boys and girls are eligible for the BSA's co-ed programs, girls are better at some leadership tasks, so they would dominate the leadership positions. I'll have to find the actual study the BSA used later.

My question is why can't they fix Girl Scouts to make it more interesting to todays modern women.

There are plenty of Girl Scout troops who do cool things. If girls are unsatisfied with them, then parents should send them to a better troop.

I think "the BSA should be co-ed" would be an extreme position even among feminists, and even if they do believe it it's rarely a priority for them.

I'm okay with this as long as the Girl Scouts allow boys so they can do more crafty things. As a man who never liked survival and fire and things like that, I would have loved to join the Girl Scouts.

You know what might be killing the Boy Scouts? Excessively restrictive membership. I got kicked out as a kid for confiding in another kid that I didn't believe in God. Apparently being gay is a big deal and they just got over that.

And what's your solution for boys who would rather do the things done in the Girl Scouts?

Scouts Canada has been accepting women leaders and girls for decades now. It is still mainly a male organization. Don't think it has been a disaster for the organization. Think this because the rugged outdoors type activities actually repel the women that are too dainty or fragile and more likely to complain about things. These complaining female leaders that mess things up tend to end up in Girl Guides Canada which has has always had a strong no boys allowed attitude.

It is not women being part of an organization that messes things up but the women that will meddle too make themselves feel better at the expense of everyone else in the organization that messes things up.
