It's like a tampon manufacturer saying "Women, remember that it's truly shameful when you cheat. Finally, society has had enough of your duplicity, and what you have done to mankind. You should be ashamed when it happens, not pretend it doesn't matter - you're filthy sluts when you do it, but all is not lost! You must work together to build the demure and trustworthy womankind that gentlemen need!" .. Just because there's a "slut" in the Whitehouse. What's cheating got to do with being a woman? Can't we just be against cheating? Can we stand up for those women who are not cheaters? Can we stand up for those women who are cheated on and get no support but we just victim blamed? No, because its not fashionable, it's time to reinforce to sexist stereotypes.

Gillette are sexist against men. I've used their products my whole adult life but until they apologize for this, withdraw the campaign and fire those involved I am done with them. I'm also appalled at those who triumph this hate - I can only imagine the reaction if it was targeted at women or race. Hate is hate.

[–]pixie_wrangler_ 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They crossed into the political realm. No amount of firing or apologies will get my business back. They need to go bankrupt. Maybe other businesses will realise that they need to STFU.

Here's the list of P&G brands, for anyone who wants to see what to cross off their shopping list:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Procter_%26_Gamble_brands

[–]Ed_Radley 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's going to be a hard list of brands to boycott. Basically have to stop buying cleaning products and toiletries.

[–]EricAllonde[S] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, not at all. There are plenty of good alternatives in every category.

[–]SaiNushi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

All cleaning products have a store-brand version. Switch to that. Dish soap, I use Ajax, and it works oh so very well. Stain removal, most biological stains (except grease) can be taken out with hydrogen peroxide. Verified to work on grass, blood, tomato sauce. Pretty sure it would also work on other fruit and vegetable stains. Grease, just spot-wash with dish soap in the sink before throwing it in the basket. Permanent marker takes rubbing alcohol (75% is supposed to be best for cleaning).

As for toiletries, partner uses Axe's 3-in-one for men, I use TresSemme and Caress (the exfoliating one). Shaving is bic (love their Silky Smooth disposables, you can get 10 of them for $4 at walmart. No moisturizing strip to irritate my skin ^_^). Colgate is the most popular alternative to Crest for toothpaste (unfortunately, the only paste both my partner and I can use is Crest's pro-health line x.x). Any major store has a decent store-brand mouthwash, comparable to Scope. If you're stalling on anything else, just ask (though my most likely answer is that I use store-brand for that). Oh! Laundry stuff... can't get to it at the moment, partner needs to be up at 6:30 (I work nights, he works business hours)

The brands I know are currently somewhere in our house: Bounce, Bounty, Charmin, Head and Shoulders, Dawn, Cascade, Swiffer, Pepto Bismol, and Vicks. Some of them we don't get often enough for me to truly warrant banning them (basically the last four on that list). The rest we might be able to change, but I'd want to make sure we find something comparable not just price but also quality.

[–]SaiNushi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For paper towels, I have two kinds. Viva are for tough messes. Cheapest I can find for everything else. Actual cleaning, we use an off-brand version of clorox wipes, and if it's a larger spill I just grab a hand towel. We have tons of hand towels. Shoot, if you switch to a rag bin, you'll be helping the environment a little.

For toilet paper, I've found the walmart brand that they store right next to the charmin to be comparable (we use the ultra strong). If you want soft, Quilted Northern's complex weave is really nice.

Swiffer, keep the handle, and use other things with it. Back when I had the handle, I used to use microfiber dust cloths for dry and clorox wipes for wet (it was a basic handle).

Is Dawn dish soap? Or fabric softener? (they have both, which is why I ask). If fabric softner, the downside to switching is your clothes will smell weird the first few washes. Otherwise, there's not much difference in quality between the big brands. If dish soap, I swear by Ajax with a foam sponge. A quarter sized bit on the sponge gets me through the giant stew pot and the frying pan, with a bit extra for the knives. (the foam sponge doesn't eat soap like traditional sponges seem to).

Dandruff shampoo will need someone else's advice, I don't have much trouble with dandruff if I stay hydrated and scrub properly. And our dishwasher doesn't get anything clean no matter what detergent we use (we rent, so we can't switch it out).

I've used a Schick for my entire adult life. If they pull this shit, I'll go with Harry's.

Whelp, if you guys are shills for harrys, this is a MASSIVE fail.

There are four organizations on that page:

The one at the top, The Representation Project, is just pure feminist bs.

The second, is basically "He for She" all over again. "A call to men": A call to men to value and respect women more. Exactly the kind of garbage we're boycotting Gillette about. Better take that down before more people find out.

The third one, CALM, is a strange one. The description given on harrys.com's website seems to suggest that maybe they engage in SJW behavior. But after investigating CALM's website and twitter feed. They seem like a completely on the level men's suicide prevention help line.

The last one could never be confused for feminist SJW's. It's a charity organisations that posts bail for men in New York. This takes guts to support, you get a Gold Star for this.

But seriously though, take the other two down. They're hurting more than they're helping.

Edit: I just looked at your comment history. Turns out you're the opposite of a shill for Harry's. Maybe actually put a statement explaining that they're SJWs along with the link. Most people don't click on link and as you can see they're assuming the opposite.

[–]SchmidtytheKid 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

100% agree with you. The link was meant to show their BS SJW stances not to advocate for them. I guess I figured people would read for themselves without needing an explanation or qualifier.

[–]votebleach2020 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not so sure about "A Call To Men," one of the organizations Harry's donates to.

[–]SchmidtytheKid 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your suspicions are well grounded. The link was meant to point out their BS not to advocate for them.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty easy: go Harry’s. I stopped buying Gillette’ overpriced crap years ago. Not only did I save a shitload of money, my skin is way better.

[–]nicheblanche -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is awesome. Thanks I'm switching meow

[–]zelda0934 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe you didn't click the link. They're supporting the exact same thing as Gillette.

That could explain why Gillette thought their advert would work. It's because all the other stuff was happening inside echo chambers that their real customers didn't know about.

[–]iTzinmyblood -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Second this company. They last me awhile and are cheaper overall for me. Been using them since before I saw them in stores.

[–]SchmidtytheKid 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Read the link. They don't stand for men but the same crap that Gillette is promoting.

[–]EricAllonde[S] 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think Schick will win big from Gillette's idiocy, I'm one of many people who will switch to them permanently. That should convince them to NEVER do the same, if they have even two brain cells to rub together.

[–]htowntrav 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There’s a post circulating that Harry’s supports the NPC SJW culture

[–]votebleach2020 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nah, two of the organizations that Harry's supports are easily radical feminist/SJW organizations

[–]SchmidtytheKid 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Exactly. My comment was not to advocate for Harry's but to point out their BS social stances.

[–]votebleach2020 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ooooooohhhhhh. Alright, then. Sorry

The Kaepernick campaign was and is a matter of race relations and police brutality and has nothing to do with men's rights. Please don't conflate the two.

[+]SuperSulf -28 points-27 points-26 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Someone convince me that people outraged by this aren't just as bad as twitter feminazis. Because it sounds like a big group of snowflakes to me.

Are men so insecure we can't separate bad behavior, and making excuses for it like saying "boys will be boys"? I don't care about Gillette, or P&G. I just hate people being hypocritical. If a feminist twitter account posts something that we disagree with, suddenly it seems that ALL feminists must think that way. Gillette makes an ad talking about the toxic parts of male culture and we think they're talking about ALL men? It's obvious they aren't, most of the actors in the ad were either men doing something they shouldn't have or men sticking up for someone and saying "hey wait a sec" like the friend of the cat-calling guy on the street. Women do shit all the time and other women say "hey wait a sec" all the time too, but this ad isn't about women, it's about men. It's not ignoring women that's just not what's the ad's about so don't use that as an excuse either.

Convince me this whole thing isn't fake outrage pushed by propaganda accounts. We know that's in the playbook.

Also, Barbara Streisand effect. The outrage is only letting this get seen more. You're playing into Gillette's hands.

[–]EricAllonde[S] 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Imagine Gillette's campaign had said something like:

"Black people, it's time to be better. It's time to stop stealing things. It's time to stop shooting each other. You need to start behaving yourselves."

Oh, what? You don't like that? Of course it's not talking about all black people, just the ones who do those toxic behaviors...

Of course that ad campaign would never happen, for the simple reason that feminists and SJWs would never dare talk about black people, or any other group, in the dishonest, smearing and demonizing way that they talk about men all the time.

[–]SuperSulf -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's an interesting point, but it's different, and here's why: The ad showed actual clips of men speaking out when other men did things they shouldn't. If an ad showed popular black voices talking about what's acceptable and what's not, and to cut out certain behaviors, I think that would be fine. Imagine if they got Donald Glover, Barack Obama, Don Lemon, Kanye West, Oprah, Regina Hall, Zoe Saldana, or Taraji Henson in there talking about a few things that plague black American culture, or in situations where certain behaviors seem common but really shouldn't be.

Imagine that there was a women version that talked about female issues, with almost exclusively female actors in it. I think that would be ok too. The problem with some of stuff in the Gillette ad that people here seem to miss is that those things are insanely common. "Boys will be boys" as an excuse for allowing aggressive or harassing behavior, catcalling on the street. Easy one they missed: "Real men don't cry" is one I hear a lot, which is bad for men's mental health, as well as some other low hanging fruit I think they could've mentioned.

Lastly, Gillette's main demographic is men, which is nearly half the population. If there was a company that focused exclusively on another demographic, then that would be appropriate for them to have an ad about. But Gillette isn't the best blacks can get, it's "the best a man can get".

[–]EricAllonde[S] 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This isn't men criticising men, it's feminists attacking men.

The equivalent would be the KKK hiring women to do the voiceovers on an ad attacking black people.

It's easy for you to say, "Of course I'd be fine with that" when you know full well the ad will never be made. The only group which it is socially acceptable to attack in this way is men.
