One commenter I saw commented that “all boys should be like this.” and then couldn’t understand why they received so much backlash and backtracked saying they meant everyone should be more heroic.

Huge respect for the child's heroism, but he is no more disposable then his sister, but I respect his choice and I would have made the same one in his shoes. Boys aren't disposable, but self sacrifice to save another in a virtue to be respected in both men and woman.

Naya Rivers using her last energy to save her son from drowning before drowning herself would be an example of this. Fighting male disposablity is vital, but reasonable self sacrifice to save another is a virtue that should never be devalued in anyone.
