I know this sounds cliche but I tend to let it come up naturally in conversation. Usually if/when the topic of exes come up or sexual turn-ons. But to preface, I’ve never actually lead my dating life with my bisexuality as the forefront but rather as just a part of me so I tend to mention it more casually. If I make it awkward, then it becomes awkward.

In my experience, most men aren’t bothered by it. Some men actually would admit it is a fetish but I am clear that I am monogamous so threesomes aren’t for me.

I’m sorry you had that experience with that person. It may or may not be related to you telling him you are bi but trust me, unless it’s a recurring issue I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You don’t need to jive with everyone and that’s the reason why we date and vet partners.

I think whether you being bisexual will be a problem or not depends largely on who you are dating. Religious, traditional men might find it not to their liking - for religious and/or social reasons. But that's just one group of people that may be suitable to date you; and even that group is not homogeneous.

I personally feel like letting them know before things get serious would be best - but maybe not on the first date. Maybe spend enough time with the person to know that they're decent, and at the very least won't react negatively or in a creepy way, but not enough time that you're attached to them.

You won't have a spark with everyone and that's totally fine. Ultimately there's no way of knowing what's going through someone's head, and there's no point in dwelling on why that person lost interest. That, I think, will only feed into your anxiety and make dating harder.

Full text: Hi, I’ll currently 22 years old and I’ve never been in a relationship. I’ve had a few almost relationships but I struggle to commit for some reason. I’m currently working on myself (e.g losing weight, practicing femininity) and taking a break from dating.

This subreddit has been very helpful; however, I haven’t been able to find much information on this topic which makes sense as it’s a more niche problem I guess. I’m bisexual. I’d describe myself as monogamous and would prefer to date a fellow atheist. My issue is that I struggle knowing when the right time is to tell a guy I’m dating that I’m bisexual. Or even knowing the right way to bring it up.

I usually don’t mention it on dating apps and I would say I’m too guarded on first dates to feel comfortable bringing it up. But I’d also prefer for people to know so they can eliminate me if it bothers them. But I also worry about being fetishized by guys. I went on a date last summer with this guy, and our conversation kind of led to me mentioning that I’m bi and I could tell he got awkward. The next day, he texted me saying he felt no spark. I don’t know if it was my sexuality that bothered him, or if he wasn’t attracted or if I’m just bad at developing a spark with people because I am a bit shy and self-protective.

I hope everything I’m saying makes sense, but I would appreciate any advice or guidance.

If you make it a weird, uncomfortable thing you have to confess, it will come across as weird and uncomfortable.

I think bisexuality in women is more common than not, and no one I’ve ever come across (aside from ultra religious ppl I guess) has ever thought it’s weird. In fact it’s always seemed like an unspoken assumption that women are at least slightly bisexual.

Try to practice self-approval, and don’t worry so much about it.

In my experience, echoing what others suggest, I don’t ‘hide’ it but I also don’t make it my ice breaker ‘btw have I said I’m bi?’ Haha

I did date a woman for about year and a half so if we mention ex’s or something related to that comes up I’ll say my ex girlfriend. If they ask etc I answer but you can tell when a guy is just creepy and weird about it.

I’ve def stopped seeing people if I found their response to be like fetishized. My husband now - when I told him I could see like a glimmer in his eye like exciting but he was like oh okay, cool and just kept being normal lol he wasn’t creepy or anything. He made me comfortable. He earned my trust and now he gets to hear anything he wants lol so it’s a win win
