Any other Fascinating Womanhood wives out there?

I'm trying my best! I have been reading through the book the last few weeks, and am trying to really step back and think about how I talk to my husband. He already handled all the finances and works full-time while I stay home and do some craft work here and there, so that part of our lives was fairly in line with the book already.

But my goodness, the specific examples that she gives about communication and support are really helping me. I realized that while I was good at complimenting my husband on my own terms, I really struggled when it came to just letting him express his opinions/desires for things and not impose my own opinions on him.

He was talking about getting a gift for a neighbor who helped us with something a few days ago, and commented that he wanted to get him a bottle of gin or whiskey or something similar. Normally I would butt in with, "Oh, but what if the neighbor doesn't drink? What if we get the wrong brand? Should I research which brand to get?" (Neither of us are big drinkers, so we wouldn't know which brands are "best.") But instead, I told him I thought that sounded like an excellent idea and that I was sure the neighbor would appreciate it.

Because why? I could say that I should make the neighbor cookies or a pie, because it will be cheaper and they might not like alcohol--but they could also be diabetic, or dieting, or just hate cookies in general. Maybe his wife loves baking and bakes pies exactly the way he wants them, or maybe he's gluten intolerant or has a severe nut allergy. There are just as many potential pitfalls with my suggestion as there are with his, so why would I insist on being right JUST to be right and make my husband agree with me? And if my husband knows we have enough money to get the neighbor a nice bottle of something, then why would I not trust him with that too?

So yes, that's my very long-winded answer! I'm trying my best to follow it and will definitely be re-reading it after I finish in order to give it a more in-depth look and really pick it apart, bit by bit.

I am doing my best practicing FW. I read it about 8 years ago and I continue to practice and live it. I am considering a class this year.

I was skeptical about it but the more I read books like "What your husband isn't telling you" by David Murrow and "For Women Only", the more I understand the logic and men's psychology behind FW so that makes it easier to adhere to.

I try to 😅 it’s easier said than done sometimes. In the beginning of my relationship I didn’t (almost 5 years together). And then I read the books about a year or two in but didn’t fully apply it until the past year. I still struggle with some things but it’s made a huge difference in my happiness and the health of the relationship.
