Did Finland's feminists brought the issue of male only conscription into their Parliament ?

As far as i know Finland started discussing the possibility of making it gender neutral last year but nothing has been decided yet.When they were discussing the possibility of this change the article that i read said that a spokesperson for the feminist association unioni which is based in Finland said that this was a step in the right direction although I am not sure whether or not this comment they put out would count as them trying to make changes to the discriminatory mandatory service in Finland.Slightly off topic but has to do with gender equality I currently have a petition to call on congress and the senate to do something about the gender discriminatory selective service system here by either abolishing it or expanding it and i would really appreciate it if anyone here can sign it if you haven't already.

This is a very broad statement, which is hard to prove wrong, or correct.

There have been MANY initiatives on making the conscription gender-neutral.

The official Feminist Party had an initiative about gender neutral AND voluntery service model. So essentially they wanted to remove the mandatory service for men. Looking at the current events, that wouldn't have been wise.

Our former defense minister, Elisabeth Rehn, the first female defense minister in Europe, allowed the voluntary service for women. And she's been pushing forward an idea about gender-neutral, mandatory, citizen service model. But she's no longer in the Parliament.

The current defense minister, Antti Kaikkonen, has also suggested a gender neutral call up, which would be limited to one day lecture explaining and introducing the armed forces to all young people, with an intention to increase the amount of volutering women.

Then we've had a series of half-assed initiatives about making it mandatory for everyone, but they really haven't had much substance in them.

But I would say it's misleading to say it was brought up by feminists, since there have been many who don't primarily identify themselves as feminists.

"Anything boys can do, girls can do better!" was the rallying cry of girls when I was young....it should have been "anything boys can do girls can do better except change a tire, difficult jobs, kill a bug, all sports, fight a war, lose half their shit in a divorce..."

But I guess that's just not as catchy..🤷
